I have a question about Beyond TV 3 and recording video...

Hello all! 🙂

I'm going to convert all of my old VHS tapes to DVD with my computer. For this reason I am considering purchasing BeyondTV-3 and an ATI e-Home Wonder to record video from my VCR. I noticed that BTV-3 can record in MPEG-2 so all is well there, but what is good software for making DVDs with MPEG-2 videos? I am considering buying Nero since Easy CD Creator doesn't get along with my Lite-ON 401S. Would that be sufficient?

In addition, the recording should be as close to original quality as possible. I hear the PVR-250 series excels in their quality but I just want to check.

I haven't done much with actually authoring DVDs (that can be played in a set-top DVD player). I've heard www.doom9.org is a good resource along those lines. Pretty much any burning software will work if you just want to archive MPEG2 files to DVD (although you can only watch them on a computer, though some newer DVD players can read raw MPEG2 and MPEG4 files on DVD-R disks).

VHS tapes are pretty poor in terms of quality. The PVR series (150, 250, 350, 500) cards from Hauppauge will be more than adequate. I'm sure even the e-Home Wonder would be fine.
