Yes I googled it.

Yes I went to pioneer's website.

But when I try to bios flash it I get an error...is it because I have a OEM compaq pull burner?

What can I do to upgrade the bios? I have 4x media and don't want to hurt the drive laser. Mabye even a bios flash to get me to 2x speeds too...lol

Thanks,
'er

you may have to flash the firmware from a dos boot disk.

I remember having a similar problem with my DVR-105.

I went there none of the DL's work. I followed the directions and everything. I get that kernal error. What now?

With a 1x dvr-104 you can kill the laser when writing to 4x media without the bios flash. It is due to a bug in the bios that is why I want to flash it to a non-buggy bios...does that help?
