I have 2 Pentium II LPX like form factor (desktop case not tower) computers which work perfectly fine(3 bay), 1 pentium PRO system desktop computer(4bay), 1 PIII 1GHZ Gateway (really a PII based system but I have a PIII processor in there) tower (10 bay), an empty IBM 4bay fully ATX compliant case tower, 2 pentium based sony vaios (4 bay) towers and 1 pentium II based sony vaio 66MHZ FSB (4bay) tower. And like 7 small capacity drives lying around with a few ATA controllers. Now I ask my self, what am I suppose to do with all of these systems besides throw them away. I was thinking of a print server, file server, a computer where I can experiement on, and possibly a computer just for web browsing? Any ideas??

Possibly contradict what I say and give a better idea?

You could use one to play around with Linux if you have not done so already. Another could run firewall duties. As for the rest, I'm sure a charity would gladly take them off your hands and find some less fortunate folks that need a computer.

Learn Linux on one. Put a few in random rooms so you can browse. I have old computers and when I get a new one for my apartment (at college) I take the old one home and put it in a new room. Sometimes I combine systems but nevertheless I have them just for browsing/chatting in many rooms. It makes things easy I guess.

doesn't seem like that is so, last time I was at my HS, they had over 100 pentium III computers in perfect working order just lying around collecting dust. I don't think they either care about poorer districts or they are too far away.

Yea I forgot about that! Problem is what should I put it on, the newer systems or older systems?

Most will tell you that anything below 500-600mhz will be a waste for Distributed Computing as the power consumption/speed ratio is unbalanced. Donating computers to "poorer" schools is just a myth anymore as computers have become more mainstream in education, even for the inner city schools around here. I would play with linux and save the rest of the parts for a rainy day or to help upgrades for friends later. I still have parts from 10 year old systems (PCI Vid Cards, ISA NIC cards) that I put into older systems to give to family members or to try different hardware configurations. I recently tried to install WinXP on a Pentium 133mhz system but the BIOS was limited to 64mb of RAM, just to prove a point on Apple's OSX to a friend. I currently have several Pentium 200mhz MMX systems I can't even give away.
