Tomorrow is my friend's birthday. We're all going out for drinks tomorrow night. His gf in under 21, so she wouldnt be able to get in. All of us guys have known each other for maybe 10 years. He has been with this bimbo for 1 year or so. Anyways, we tells me today that he's not going because he has to work early the next morning. However, he will be hanging out with her tomorrow night instead.

Besides that, he's been annoying me lately because he is incredibly cheap. If we go out to a resturaunt, he's the last to pick up the check and look at it. If he orders $50 worth of food, and I order $10, he wants to split it half/half. He never insists on paying for anything if a split check cant be done. He charged $1.04 on plastic at a McDonalds.

But he has been my friend for a long time. What can I do.

End of rant.

Well, he works 1 full time job, and a 2nd part time job. He has no expenses besides auto insurance. No car payment (his parents gave him their 94 corolla, no cell phone (doesnt have the credit), nothing! He doesnt have any school tuition because he takes 1 or 2 classes a semester at a community college. He's 24 by the way.

So, to answer your question, no he'e not broke. I dont know what he does with his money though, because it seems he never has any.

I really hate to talk all this sh*t about my good friend, but today with the whole birthday thing, it really hit a nerve.

It does not surprise me that he wants to spend time with his gf. Sex is a hell of a positive reinforcement.

When you go out alway asks for separate checks.

Ever consider telling your "friend for a long time" what you think about him to his face, good or bad? Some friend you are.

I wouldnt call him a loser if he is working 40+ hours a week and at least making an effort in school.

He might be behind.. his life might not be as great as others.. but it seems as if he is trying.

As for the money, maybe he realizes he is 24 and he doesn't make the 90k everyone else around him makes so he is saving like crazy to invest.

Loser might be a bit harsh, but why wouldn't he suggest meeting earlier in the evening and/or going to a place where his girlfirend could hang as well?

As for being cheap... seperate checks is the way to go. (FTW as they say here in ATOT land) :) I'd do the same thing if you'd let me get away with it.

I don't know if I'd knock him for the McDonald's charge... I've used plastic there too...when I didn't want to take the time to hunt down an ATM.. or reached into my pocket to find a $1 bill and not he $10 bill I thought I had.

Just because he used plastic on $1 item, doesn't make him cheap..
I don't carry cash, so i use my plastic on everything.. Easier to keep track

Been what kind of friend?

Drove out on a rainy night to help fix your flat on the highway? Sent your mom flowers in your name when you forgot it was her birthday? Grabbed the last spot in a class for you because you were running late to registration? Waited in line all night & day just to help you score tickets? Offered to pay the tab once in a while because it wasn't much & he knew you were going through rough times? Bailed you out of jail? Gave a good recommendation to his boss & got you a great position? Gave you a piece of his liver? Took care of your dog while you were on vacation? Set up your tivo on Christmas morning before you woke up? Drove across three state lines to bash that deadbeat ebay scammer in the head with a wrench. Offered you the last beer in the fridge without hesitation, knowing all the stores are closed tomorrow? Trusted you with his sister?

From the description, he sounds like a leech.

40+ hours working retail making under $10 is not "trying". He has been taking the same low level math class for the last 3 years, failing it every year. He is not trying. If he was trying, he would stop working all those ridiculous hours in retail and get into school full-time, and actually make an effort to pass his classes.

What's wrong with charging $1.04 on plastic? I never carry any cash because I hate carrying change, so I charge everything on plastic...

I have a gf. We all have girlfriends. And we all hang out together without this one guy and his gf. No one likes her, and we all realize these characteristics in my friend that I am describing to you.

I havent been single for the last six years. I've had long relationships, and I've had short ones, and currently, I've been with this one girl for 10 months. And I still make time for my close friends and I dont let it ruin friendships. Neither does anyone else. Having a girlfriend is not an excuse to be turn into a bum.

We are not going to change our plans and go somewhere underage because his gf is underage. Everyone else is 21+.
