I have been living with my POS system for long enough. I have a little over $1000 dollars to spend on a new system, and I don't know what I should get. I've been out of the loop with computers for a little bit due to college.

I already have a Geforce DDR that I will be using in the system, so a new video card is not needed. I do need a new monitor though. Also, no modem is needed (DSL here).

Should I go AMD or Intel? If I go with AMD, will I have problems with my Geforce? The vast array of MB chipsets is quite confusing. I remember the good old days when you just got a BX and that was that.

All ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance for the help.

I would recommend an TBird or Duron depending on how many bells and whistles you want. A good place to get these items is allstarshop.com go there and play with different comfigurations of stuff. On the monitor subject if you can bear to get a refurbished monitor go to monitoronsale.com I got a 21" sony for $450 and have been VERY happy with it. Especially since it comes with a one year warranty.

I´d get a T-bird 700-800MHz, an Asus A7V/Abit K7T and overclock that sucker as high as it´ll go!

An Amd Duron system seems to offer the best bang for the buck, especially considering its overclocking potential.

Try this:

Amd Duron 600
Abit KT7 or Asus A7v mobo
IBM Deskstar 75GXP drive - 15Gb or the Quantum 30Gb Fireball + LM
128MB SDRAM PC133 - Mushkin Rev2
Sound Blaster Live value OEM
Altec Lansing ACS 54 speakers
Linksys LNE100TX NIC 10/100 Dual Sensing
300W ATX case
17-19" monitor
etc.

Depending on your preference, you could juggle the config to suit your taste and budget.
The Hotdeals forum seems to offer a lot of ideas on what to get.

Happy shopping.
