I have a Linksys router on eBay, and this guy asked me a question I cannot answer:

So I put a regular Linksys WRT54G wireless router up, and this guy asked:

"Hi. Can I use this in my garage to catch my bedroom's WiFi signal and conect 3 PC to it? I mean, wireless from my bedroom to Garage, then wired to 3 PCs?"

So I assume he has another router already in his bedroom, and wants to use this router I have to 'catch' the signal and further splitting it into 3 wired PCs. I'm 95% sure that it is not possible, am I right? Is there such product on the market to do what he's looking for?

Thanks in advance.

Edit* Ok, oh man, I think I see another thread showing how to make a bridge w/ this router lol.
Edit2* I read the other thread about making a wireless bridge, unfortunately my router is v5, so 3rd party firmware is a pain to flash.

It may be possible, especially if that's an older WRT54G where you can use 3rd party firmware. I don't know for sure.

But either way, as somebody eBay'ing the equipment, your answer is "I don't know". It's the buyer's job to understand how the equipment is used, not yours to explain it to him. If you say "maybe it can", then he can come back a week later and claim that you told him it would. It's not your problem - save yourself the hassle.

It doesn't matter, don't answer the question, it is the buyer's job to know what it can do or not do, not yours. If you tell him it can do something and either he can't or doesn't know, your liable.

As a fellow eBayer, my response would be "No, I don't think so." You might say "There might be some 3rd party firmware that can do it, but I'm not supporting other firmware."

Here's a recent thread showing someone here who's done it successfully.

http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=36&threadid=1914926&enterthread=y

But, just because this person's done it doesn't mean that another customer will be successful and happy in the end. "Bricking" the router and failure to make it work is a real possibility.

I think a proper answer would say that it is not a part of the functionality out of the box, so not a part of the feature set that's being advertised with it, and not one that the manufacturer would support.

If the seller here took the trouble to flash it with DD-WRT himself (which some sellers actually do), it'd be a different story.
