I have a job interview this Friday!

I am being interviewed this Friday for a system engineer position. All I know is that it will be in front of a panel maybe 5-6 people and approx. an hour long for a corporate company. I have not been prep for an interview for more than couple years now and little rusted. Any pointers and advice to give me would be appreciated. What questions will they ask me or what I should keep in mind during the interview? Thanks in advance!!!

Just don't be like the idiot who I interviewed last week. Phone interview and he goes "what kind of last name is that" the very first thing he said. I said I'm Persian and he goes me too and starts speaking in Persian with me. Interview was over 2 minuter after that.

bump! I did not mention that I am already a contractor at this company for about 9 months now. I already know the people on the panel so its not like I'm going in blind. But I want to make a good impression during the interview.

try to appear confident even if you're skeert.

Any way to discover the questions in advance?

Prolly canned questions like

"what are your 3 most important values?"

"Name and describe 3 people that have impacted your life."

"Describe ways to protect DNS servers in an array from TCP/IP malicious packets."

You know, the standard stuff.

Good luck, hope you get it!!

Don't do this:

Interviewer: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Peter (thinking): Don't say doin' your wife. Don't say doin' your wife. Don't say doin' your wife.
Peter: Doin' your son?

🙂

Remember that first impressions are VERY important. SO make sure you don't goto the interview looking like

If they ask you a technical question and you simply have no idea what the correct answer is SAY SO. Don't BS them.

You already work with them and they need to interview you formally to see how you are? That's weird...

I've interviewed a lot of people and I see these negative aspects a lot
1. Lying
2. Make crap up when they don't know the answer
3. Being TOO comforatble (lying back, resting chin, etc)
4. Too dominating (this one guy kept standing up and talking down to us)
5. Too boring (candidate gives short answers, doesn't ask anything)

oh and there's a few who go psychotic when you ask them about things they don't like (such as bad managers, technologies they didn't like, etc)

And when I ask "what do you do for fun?" a lot of candidates have said "i like to play games." Alright that's not a bad thing but I wouldn't mention that in the interview 🙂

I think its wierd too because I already work with these people. But this is a big corporation therefore I have to go through the procedure like everyone else. Its also for formality.
