Im thinking of upgrading a system. I'm looking at either a 6800gt(agp) or 7600gt (Pci-e)
Keep in mind all my games are on my AGP system(280gb worth) so there will be a big amount of time wasted in transferring them to the other system.

AGP System
AMD64 3300+ Special Edition(256k chache 2.4GHZ s754)
1GB Ram
AGP
WXP Home

Sempy 3200+(256k chache 1.8ghz s939)<-Overclocked to 2.0ghz
1gb ram<-overclocked to 444mhz DDR
PCI-e
WXP Pro
Not likely to overclock more, im using clockgen since there are 0 overclock options in bios.

Please no agp is a dead horse and upgrade now, i jsut want to know which system will be faster after the 6800gt and 7600gt are overclocked.

In terms of overclocking speed, the 7600GT will win - but I'm not too sure if you don't plan on upgrading that Sempy, it looks kind of weak. If you do go with the Sempy system, you'll probably need to replace/upgrade the processor at some point (which shouldn't be too bad, considering AMD price cuts make for excellent value).

well I'll be probabyl picking up a 3700+ or 3800+X2 after a short while if I have to but I have to pay some stuff off first before I can afford one of those.

6800GT and 7600GT are similar if both are stock; however, being the owner of a 7600GT KO from eVGA I can tell you that this card can overclock like there is no tomorrow. Autodetect in ForceWare drivers yielded an optimal clock of 608 MHz core/1622 MHz RAM. I dropped it slightly and it's running perfectly at 602/1560. That a 42 MHz overclock on the core and a 160 MHz overclock on the DDR3 RAM. Also, this is on the stock cooler and my load temps don't go much over 60C. With an aftermarket cooler I'm sure you will have more room to overclock if you wanted to.

Some examples from games:

Half-life 2 at1280*1024 with MAX AA/AF, Bloom lighting, Vsync, everything on full
I average 75 FPS according to FRAPS and go well over 80 when there aren't too many AI in the game.

CS: S at same settings as HL2:
Average well over 100 FPS (Usually in the 120-160 FPS range), sometimes go over 200 FPS according to FRAPS

Need for Speed: Most wanted (very demanding game)
1280*1024 with MAX everything

I average 30-40 FPS on FRAPS, very playable at that frame rate. If I turn down eye candy 40-50 FPS is not hard to get.

I will probably play at 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 btw so cpu limitations should be minimal if at all.

Also dosnet the 6800gt overclock well too? 350->425 and 1000 to 1150mhz are common too right?

Why don't you do this:

Amd 64 3000 s939 Venice
Asus A8N E
2 X 512mb/1GB DDR 400 ram
Geforce 7600GT/X1800GTO PCIe

I would go for the PCIe card, especially if you plan on upgrading the cpu in that rig anyway. It just makes more sense to migrate over to the PCIe system, and (re)install the games as you want to play them if you don't want to deal with all gazillion of them at once.

Because I already have the sempy system. Got it as a deal. Acer T160 + 17" monitor cost me $289, so that + a 7600gt/x1800gto2 will still be around $500 for my gaming rig since I can transfer ram over from my agp rig.(Take that PS3/Xbox360)

I'm thinking x1800gto2 if I can stretch it but I wil lbe playing on a 19" trinitron so I'll be playing as high a resolution as the card will do smoothly(1600x1200 max resolution at 75 hz) so I realyl dont think the cpu will be a problem. If it is I may upgrade but I'm not counting on it right now.

The performance of the two cards you mentioned will be very close in their respective systems, so all thats to decide with in my opinion is:

(1) 6800GT will cost quite a bit more to purchase then the 7600GT unless you buy it used.
(2) AGP is a dead-end (which you already know) making the PCI-E card a better way to spend your money.

Winner: 7600GT
