i have a di-624 in my office with WIFI, and 4 ports. I have used 3 of the ports(pc, print server, tivo) and now i made a ethernet cable running from the office through the terrace going into the living room to connect XBOX, ps2, and another tivo.

However, the cable works as if i connect straight into xbox, it works. But when i connected to a switch it doesnt work. No ip is being pass, and nothing happens. I tried 2 switches to make sure, and none are working.

What can i do?

Making your own cable could certainly be a part of the problem. Usually a bad idea for those that don't crimp alot of ends however it sounds here like your just not using an uplink port on the switch OR the ports are not autosensing. If your switched ports are not autosensing AND it does not have an uplink port or button to switch say port 1 to uplink, then you'll need to rewire the cat5 as a crossover. Wires 1&3, and 2&6 are switched.

Well the cable is fine i tell you. I have attached the port 4 from the router to UPLINK port, and even the shared ports and nothing.

Do you think a cross over cable will do the trick?

it is a 5 port linksys switch

I have that exact same switch. It works the way you are using it just fine with a Straight cable. I have it plugged into the Uplink port. I wonder what is going on? Since the cable works fine without the switch it should work in the uplink port of the linksys. The Dlink being pretty new should have autosensing ports. Strange. Are you 100% sure that cable is wired correctly? When you run it on the Xbox it works 100%??

yes the cable runs great on my xbox.

Even downloaded all the patches, and etc...

I s thre an option maybe to configure on the router? Looks all connections are fine. But the sitch doesn't transmit the IP from the router.

Ladies and Gentelman, i got it to work.

Its fixed. Apperantly it was the cable. I re did the end going into the router, and it worked. Funny though, that the xbox worked with the cable.

I attached my laptop to the cable to make sure it was the cable, and it would find an IP, but it senses the connection.

thanks to all of you
