A while ago I posted that I fell asleep all the time. I susupected that I had sleep apnea.

Well, I went to get it checked out, and it seems like I did have it.

ANyway, now I have my CPAP machine.

it's some crazy shiznit.

I feel like freaking Darth Vader w/that crap on.

Does anyone here use one of these things? Any tips for me? My nose gets all dry and crap after I use it.

I had a sever case of sleep apnea and I had a CPAP machine using 13 pounds of pressure. At first I really hated it because the dang masks would not fit right and I would get a pressure scabs on the bridge of my nose. I switched to nasal pillows and that did the trick. If you are having problems with a dry mouth it may be that your machine is set to strong or you may have to buy a humidifier attachment for your machine because your room air is too dry.

The reason I had sleep apnea was because I had an enlarged adanoid that was blocking 80% of my nasal passage. This caused me endless ear infections for 2 years but I had an operation to remove it and now I have a milder case of sleep apnea (my machine is set at 9 pounds now).

I'm now trying to lose more weight (I was 280 now I'm down to 233 and trying to get lower) so that I can get ride of the machine.

Good luck with the sleep apnea.

You will be asked to participate in a sleep study overnight at a sleep lab overseen by a doctor who specializes in sleep disorders; usually a neurologist or psychiatrist. They hook you up to a bunch of monitors. Don't let the psychiatrist thing bother you. When doctors don't know what's wrong with you, they send you to a psychiatrist. For many years, there was nothing known about sleep disorders, or even that they existed, and so people suffering from sleep disorders were sent to psychiatrists because their doctors didn't know what was wrong with them. Psychiatrists were among the first to identify and describe sleep disorders many years ago.

I was diagnosed with narcolepsy, which means I fall asleep all the time, but there isn't much they can do about it except keep me jacked-up on amphetamines all day.

I also have apnea.....I used a cpap for about 2 weeks.....wife said the noise of the cpap is louder than my snoring. I stopped using it and tried using those nasal strips and medicine to keep my nose clear. Seems to lessen my snoring. I went to the sleep clinic and was diagnosed after my breathing stopped for more than a minute about 155 times. Cutting caffiene can also lessen your apnea. I refuse to give up my caffiene. I just sleep less.....about 4 hours a night. It seems to be the perfect amount of sleep for me. Anymore than that and I feel groggy all day. I usually sleep from 12:30 - 4:30 am.

there's a thing you can hook it up to that moisturizes the air. It's just a pass through that you fill with water. That would help the dryness. If your health plan should cover it. If not, I might have one lying around (my dad used to be on a cpap) and I'll send it to you for cost of shipping. pm me if you need it.

My dad uses one, and one of the things he has suggested in the past is to get a UPS with a power alarm. Those masks generally fit so tight on your face that if the power goes out, you have to scramble to get it off. If you have a UPS hooked up to it, you get a feww extra minutes to work on it plus an alamr to wake you up.
