I can't cook bacon. It always ends up burnt beyond recognition. I tried the microwave and couldn't stand the taste.

I need your help ATOT. Help me cook bacon.

Do you mean you tried the pre-boxed ready to microwave kind, or you threw regular bacon in the microwave?

Pull it out of the pan just before it looks like when you think you should.

lower the heat. if it curls up you've got it too high. use tongs to keep it flat if that happens. and what kalmah said.

Sigh... bake it in the oven, it's the fail proof way. Once you managed to do that, then graduate to cast iron skillet.

Electric skillet. It gives even heat and you can cook on a steady temperature and closely regulate how crispy it gets.

The secret to cooking good bacon is to not let the pan get too hot. Slow and steady is the way to go. You should cook with a light "sizzle." If grease is flying out of the pan, it is too hot!

Also, if you want crispy bacon that is still a little pliable, pull it out of the pan while it is still a bit limp, and let it dry for a few minutes on a paper towel. If you wait until its shrunk too much to remove it from the pan, you will get bacon bits or worse.

The cheap bacon cooks funny. If you're buying the generic brand, try getting some of the nicer stuff.

My fire alarm always goes off when I buy cheap bacon. I have no idea why. The better bacon doesn't cause any issues.

You sound like my old roommate OP. You both have to realize there's other settings on the stove other than all the way off and all the way on. Low-med heat.

Cooking bacon well is just the same as mastering the art of cooking/frying a good over easy egg or omlet.
It takes some time to learn but once perfected, so wonderful.

Personally, I start the heat on high, then once the bacon looks to be half way cooked, I lower it so I can get that nice sizzle and crunch without being charred. Although I prefer bacon that is more well done than limp.
