I don't understand the facination with Dave Matthews Band. I really don't. I like a couple of his songs (Too Much, So Much To Say, Crash Into Me, Tripping Billies) but I don't understand why the guy sells out multiple concerts in the same cities and has a cult following.

That said I don't understand the cult following of the Grateful Dead, either. I like their music quite a bit, but I'm not about to get into a van and follow them all over the country. ;)

I don't undersand the whole Dave Matthews thing either. I have a really good friend that just loves him and swears she will have his children. To me his music is, ummm, well average at best.

I'm with you here.. I don't understand it either. They're ok, but other than those couple of songs, they're not that great.. My g/f's into them, however.

Dave Matthews Band has to be the biggest bandwagon of modern day. I, personally, can not stand the band, which sticks me in the minority of college students. There are a few songs I dont mind, but other than that it sounds like he is whining while he performs.

It's not about the music; it's about the concerts. At DMB shows, which I've been going to for several years now, the concert atmosphere is one of the best. They put on amazing concerts, especially if you appreciate that genre of music.

I've seen over 400 different performers in the last seven years of concert-going, and the DMB is in the top three or four of my list of performers.

That being said, it's almost as sheepish to say "dave matthews band sucks" nowadays as it is to like them.

If you don't like them, that's fine; but simply saying they suck is asinine at best. Their music is not your standard variety of pop-music; nor was it ever crafted to specifically fill a niche in pop music.

Some people just get too serious about the groups that they like.

Agreed, minendo. I don't mind a few of his songs but past that, I can't see why people think he is so great. I really hope his voice is definitely not the reason that people listen to him (his voice creates certain pitches that I fear would shatter glass).

His guitar playing is pretty good, I will give him that, but that is about all he has going for him. I don't find his songs that profound and certainly not good enough that he sells out as well as he does.

I just don't understand why people today are attracted to bands w/ terrible vocals. Whatever floats your boat I guess....

<< maybe you are just not a sheep :D >>

Whatever.

Buy his first couple real albums that came out. EVERY SONG on each of those albums is EXCELLENT except for maybe one song on each. I'm not a fanboy of groups and if a group falls from grace I'll call it but DMB's first two albums at least are class-acts.

If you insist on knocking put your money where your mouth is and name what you think is "better" and not part of the "biggest bandwagon of modern day".

YOu cant tell me that everyone one of the DMB fans have the same appreciation of music you do. I mean come on, you know half of them just go to the concerts to get stoned and be with their friends. I would not have any problems with their music, but whenever they release good songs they end up getting played out extremely fast.

I never had a problem with DMB until freshmen year of college when my roommate was obsessed. His goal was to download as many DMB songs and live performances as possible. He would sit at his computer non-stop downloading and listening to the same song over and over. He ended up with almost 20 gigs of mp3s which he decided to use my computer to burn them to cd. Of course his practices caused him to fail out of school.

What bugs the hell out of me is when I mention some songs to so called DMB fans and they have no idea what the hell I am talking about. Here they are obsessed with the band, but they wouldnt know when a good song hit them in the face. All they know are the songs that get played on the radio and have music videos.

Well that's sad. After the album that had crash on it I basically lost interest. I am not sure why as his album after that had some good stuff too but I did. Nonetheless given his earlier work that I was exposed to I maintain that he was/is excellent and makes excellent music. I don't know how he is now and I think that anybody who lives/breaths any band like your roomate did is doing themselves a disserverice.

I like'em enough. I like just about any musician who puts a little heart in thier work... Even if it's just a bit. All the same i prefer to spend my time and money on the lesser known bands and venues.... It's nice to be needed :)

Perhaps he learned something from his obsession and wont fail out of school for the third time when he returns in the fall.

Saying that a music group sucks or saying that their fans are part of a bandwagon or are sheep is to become the epitome of what you are criticizing. Your dislike for certain music does not invalidate the enjoyment felt by others when they listen to it. Music is very subjective - thank God.

I am not a big fan of dave. In fact, if it wasn't for napster or kazaa lite I wouldn't have the albums I have.

How far can one go in the endless procession of "cooler-than-you'ism"?

I'm cooler if I don't like the band you like.
I'm cooler if I like the band you don't like because everyone likes it?!?

Can ayone just make up thier own fricking mind about sh!t?

Pepsi,

You care to validate your opinion with even the smallest bit of reason? I don't mind if you don't like him; I wonder, though, why you say he sucks.

Dave Matthews is popular among fratboy potheads. Something about his music apparently goes well with getting high. Since just about all fratboys are potheads, that explains his popularity.

Anymore stereotypes you care to throw out?
