So, I got a 50" TV last year and the sound was really pathetic so I bought a cheap 80 buck insignia soundbar to use. The soundbar works great, has optical in and remote. The only issue I have is playing back bluray discs as the low frequency sounds really make this thing clip. The soundbar has a sub-woofer out and my HIFI subwoofer has 2 sub inputs. I was thinking of using this secondary to connect to my soundbar and here is my question:

will connecting this sub to the soundbar move the low frequencies to it? ie, will low frequencies only go to the sub and not the soundbar. I only ask because my sub is pretty damn big and is 600W and I put it in a custom made shelf/rack and dont want to tear this down to reach the connections only to find it sucks.

I'm assuming both the soundbar sub output and the subwoofer input are standard RCA jacks?

check the insignia's manual to determine if it provides full range to the soundbar if a subwoofer is connected. In the absence of any info and of any software/hardware switches on the soundbar, I imagine it would continue to play whatever signal it normally does whether or not a sub is connected.

what is connected to your sub right now?

edit: specs list frequency response as 150 Hz ~ 15 kHz for the soundbar.
I imagine it either sends a 0-150hz or a full range signal to the subwoofer. if your sub has a low pass filter you should set it to around 150hz.

Yes, RCA jacks. My 7.1 sound system is connected to it right now. I normally dont use it for movies as I live in an apt and my neighbors hate me enough for playing my guitars. Actually another question just came to me. My sub, having 2 rca sub inputs, will having one connection from my hifi system and one from the soundbar cause any problems on the sub? I dont plan to use both the hifi and soundbar at the same time but the sub is always connected, I dont want to blow it.
