I want to know if I can use my cell phone to connect my laptop to the internet, even if it's only at 28.8k. I have a IBM thinkpad 600E (running XP right now) With an IBM thinkpad modem built in, and a 28.8 USR PCMCIA modem. it's also got a 10/100 NIC in it (3com)

I have a motorola 120c phone (Verizon service) . It has some type of connector on the bottom that's not documented in the manual anywhere.

Can this be done?

You'd need a cellular modem PC card--one that's compatible with your cell phone. But even with that, you'd most likely only connect at 14.4Kbps, or even 9600bps.

Motorola Timeport 8767 all you need is a serial port and you can connect to the net. Depending on location, service provider, you'd probably only get 9600 as said above. Plus you still need an ISP.

Definitely not the preferred method of connecting, but, if you are in a pinch it would work.

Hmm, $100 for a cable and a driver CD. A total ripoff but you know I'm gonna buy it anyway.....

I found the 'kit' [cable and cd] for my Sprint PCS Kyocera/Qualcomm 2035 at Best Buy for $47. Still a lot, but it beat the $90 Sprint wanted.

The speed is only 14.4 and Sprint charges $5 a month for web access. I'm unsure how Verizon handles this. Then use your minutes just like you are talking.

You will need an ISP with dialup. I'm on @Home, but they want $25 to setup dialup and .15 a minute for access...ripoff! I'm still looking for a free ISP that doesn't pelt you with ads.

My Pacific Bell DSL Comes with a Dial-up account (for in case the DSLgoes down, I guess) So I can use that when I'm out of town with the laptop (or in class, or wherever). You found yours for half price though.. maybe I can find the Motorola one for about $50.
