first you would need to close the last L5 bridge in order for them to work in a dual motherboard. what this does is make your processors into MP

next you need to see if the processors are multiplier unlocked , if they are then you can do a pin mod to allow for higher multiplier or use TMC-XP [multiplier changers]

also need to know what board you want to use , there is few to choose from,

MSI K7D Master [allows multiplier control to 12 and up to 150 fsb , and cpu voltage to 1,82]
Asus A7M266D [another dual board that works well , i been told rev 1.4 board is best and last one made?]
Gigabyte [also a board that is still being sold , check newegg refurb section as they are there now for 130 dollars] this board doesnt have cpu voltage control or multiplier control in bios , would require pin mod for cpu voltage etc

for memory i prefer ecc registered just cause i had so much trouble with two sticks that wasnt

how do i check if the processors are multiplier unlocked?

I was leaning toward the k7d mater-l. would this be beneficial to overclock in the bios? would the limits in the bios get me much farther that the stock cpu speeds? or should i choose another mobo and just use the pin mod? I know that the pin mod will get me WAY past the 12.5 mark esp since i want to water cool.

thanks

You can't OC past 2000+ speeds on the K7d with multiplier adjustment inthe bIOS alone, and on top of that, current Bartons are multiplier locked anyway except for the mobile chips. You will have to do some basic hardware mods to get the setup working and you will be very limited on Overclocking potential on the MPX chipset. Personally, I got my 1700+ Tbred Bs up to 2400+ with some simple mods, but the increased heat from having those two space heaters together in one case is a bit too much and I have clocked them back down to stock for summer. So on top of chipset limitations, you will need a good cooling system to be able to get much out of the chips.

No hardware mods is impossible but worth it from what they say...You really need to spend some time at http://2cpu.com those guys know thier stuff. Have moblie bartons running dual 2600Mhz for around $400 and exciting stuff like that.

check to see what week your processors were made , if its earlier than week 38 of last year it should be unlocked.

you will need to do a pin mod or use TMC-XP if the processors are unlocked to go past 12x multiplier for this board. if they are unlocked and dont want to do this best you will do is 12 x 150 [2400+]

you will have to do the L5 mod , closeing last bridge with defogger grid repair kit so the processors will be MP capable

as far as cpu voltage you can change that in bios

i have two of these boards myself and am useing mobile amd laptop chips on one of them ,
