I have a 35-hr TiVo and a 60gb hd sitting right next to it... **UPDATE: The deed is done!**

you are lazy. It took my former roomate like 20 minutes to do it once he found the imaging software.

You have the DirecTIVO right?

I LOVE the quality since it's always on the highest quality setting, it's all digital right?

I used zip ties on my Stand Alone.. But who cares about that, DirecTivo is where it is at. Took about 20 mins to hack each.

Yep, it's the same Hughes that you have. :)

I don't have a mounting bracket, but I'm sure I can figure something out. ;)

Ha ha ha, I used zip-ties too.

I had some programs I wanted to save on mine, so it took over 4 hours to copy all of the contents of the old 60 GB drive over to the pair of new 120 GB'ers.

There's something that just rocks about a 298 hour Tivo. I use medium quality as my default now, which is much better than basic quality, which yields about 176 hours from 240 GB.

Damn I'm a nerd. I barely ever watch TV. I don't even have cable or satellite.

I'd love to get a DirecTivo, but it's not worth the money to me right now.

anyone know if you can pull the files off of a tivo drive from PC? I had a Dishnetworks PVR crap out but the drive still works, and has some stuff on it i want to keep.

I will resist the "upgrade" bug until I can find a good deal on a Maxtor 120GB.

What brand/capacity HD did you use?

Is it really that easy? My DirecTivo should be coming in the next 2 weeks and after reading around on tivocommunity and dealdatabase it seems like a big hassle...or am I missing something?

It seems like a big hassle for me as well.

I am considering ordering the 120GB upgrade kit with advance cooling pack but that's close to $200!

No, it is very easy.

Just download a program and create a bootable floppy or cd. Then take the new drive and mount it as a slave drive in your PC. Reboot your pc and run the program, which entails a single command line (or was it two lines) to format the drive. Install the hd in your TiVo, and away we go!

Some of the instructions I've seen do make it more complicated then it needs to be. Some suggest backing up your current TiVo drive, copying it to the new drive, testing the new drive, taking it out again, reformatting it, etc... I'm not sure what the point is.

RossMAN, I used a 60gb WD that I had laying around. Added with the stock TiVo drive, I now have ~88 hours worth of time. :)

I read the Hinsdale how-to and figured out what parts weren't actually necessary... Basically all of the backing up, copying, and testing.

If you'd like me to edit that "how-to" down to what you absolutely need, I'll do that when I get the chance sometime in the next few days. :)
