I have a 108mpbs wireless router but only picking up 54mpbs?

I have a 108mpbs wireless router but only picking up 54mpbs through my laptop is this normal? Do I need a certain type of laptop to use the whole 108 mpbs or do I have to change a setting or what?

I guess your router supports 108mbps and your laptop only supports 54mbps

it doesn't matter it's not like your internet is that fast anyways I doubt it will really make a difference just another marketing scam.

While your Internet is probably not that fast, the high speed routers allow faster transfers among wirelessly networked computers.

The 108Mbps comes from internal doubling of the signal in a speed boost style routers. This is like using two 56k modems on two phone lines back in the old days. The only way you can get that speed on your laptop is to use a PCMCIA card with matching speed boost technology.

each adjustable wireless networking settings you tweak out makes every impact. an example, while more security features may take longer for a wireless network card to encode and decode, it can affect overall Internet performance of even smaller file types rapidly being sent back and forth if you're not sure of old and new variable factors.
moving beyond automatic settings is a place for the happy.
