I have $70, what do I get to go with my Athlon 700?

You'll definately be cpu limited, but a Radeon 9000 is the cheapest fully DirectX8.1 compliant video card for $63 shipped.

Would you guys buy a 9000 pro OEM version? Newegg has one pricewatch.com says. I have never gotten an OEM before so...

that athlon is slot-based correct?

I'd vote for the 9000pro to be your best best as well.

Yes, Slot A. Does that make a difference on the video card for some reason?

Is that VooDoo5 PCI version? If it is, I may wanna buy it...

I would have to agree, the 9000 is probably the best deal for your budget.

"Would you guys buy a 9000 pro OEM version?"

Don't be wary of OEM version cards.

Watch the AGP power draw ... your old board won't be able to feed a current "high performance" card. An ATi Radeon 9000pro (or a 3rd party OEM card) should fit into the power budget though, and makes for a nice update, DX8 engine, DVI connector, dual head capability and all.

That is what worries me. I mean am I going to get my reboot problems or motherboard problems with the 9000pro? For some reason, I feel like I will.

No ... the 9000 series are quite shy on power draw, I'd even dare fit them into AGP 1.0 boards. If you have a bad gut feeling, get one of these fanless non-pro 9000s, these are even lower. They're slower too, of course.

Yah, b/c if it were a Socket A, it would make more sense to spend ~$50 on a 2x as fast Pally, T-bred or even T-bird.

If you're worried about power draw, run the video card fan off your power supply with an adapter.

Never tried that before. My friend said he would give me $35 for the Voodoo so I may go for the 9000 pro.

He's saying that if it was socket a, you would probably be much better off buying like a 1.33ghz athlon for 43 bucks rather than a new video card

Gnnn :) ... this is not about the fan's own power draw, but rather that the necessity of a cooling fan indicates that the chip underneath has a higher heat dissipation (and hence, a higher power draw) than one that can cope with passive cooling.

I sold the Voodoo 5 last night on Ebay and want to order the Radeon 9000 today. Should I get one with DVI or not? The price difference is only $5 on newegg.

Those that have DVI and CRT outs are dual head capable ... if the board makers weren't being entirely stupid, as seen on some 8500 models. Spend those $5.
