OK, I have $500 (Canadian Dollars) and these are my choices....

BFG nVidia GeForce 6800OC,128MB DDR,8x AGP - $450
Asus GFNX6800GT/TD 128M - $485
Leadtek GFNX6800 128M - $399
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB - $380
ATI RADEON 9800 XT AGP 256MB - $510

These prices are from various stores around Edmonton, Alberta. x800pro is $600 and 6800gt 256mb is $700......I cant justify paying $200 more for one of these cards.

So, what would you do?

Ya but the Asus they have marked as GT really isnt a GT at all. Its basically a bfg 6800 oc with unlocked pipelines and vertex shader which I unlocked on my bfg 6800 oc.

So, what did you use to unlock the pipelines and the vertex shader? I wish there was a website with benchmarks for that Asus card. Anyone know of one?

he knows its not a GT, i dont see why he shouldnt get it and be assured the extra pipes...

in fps they do.

But it might be too much power to not have a bigger memory buffer and more bandwidth.

I would really try to get a 6800 GT 256MB. But I don't know how much that costs there.

I'd prolly go for the BFG. (IF)
I think the Asus is not really a GT card.. I don't think they make GT's in 128MB.. that might just be Asus' model designation. but I could be wrong.

the Asus 6800 GT is NOT a GT per se.

Using the latest riva tuner you can unlock the extra pipes and vertex. I have a PNY 6800 and I was able to do it successfully. I am currently runing at 385 and 750 core and memory. It makes a difference and a decent one once you oc the card. At stock (which mine was 325) it made a 2 fps difference once I oc it it made a 9 fps difference. I can play 1280*1024 with 42 fps and set to high. On a XP oc to 2.3 gigs

Being you i would get a radeon 9800 pro 128meg at like 249-299+tx canadiens

All the card youv list are not major upgrade compare to the 9800 pro,

DONT TOUCH THE ASUS lol.Its only 128 meg,ddr1 memory and clock at normal 6800 cards(350/700).

Get the 9800 pro, and same your cash for later for a bigger card.Cause honestl, none of the card you listed are realy major upgrade.

All those card are good, yeah, but will nto give a significantly boost compare to a 9800 pro.

But!If you really wanna get the card in $500 budget absolutly, best for the price....well hmmm man honestly it stink.Spending 500$ on a 128 meg card is a non-sence

Save a bit mroe dude, and get like 100-150 more and get a 6800gt.At least it got the latest technology AND 256 meg of ram!!!

Hey again it depend what u wanna play.Id go personnaly, knowing i just have 500 buck, id go for the 6800 BFG.But i warned you, its not the best money can buy you will get here.

Look at this page:

http://graphics.tomshardware.c...ml#farcry_v11_4xaa8xaf

It show you one of the latest game witha few card. The card you want( 6800 ) is not listed there but you can follow the LEADTEK A400 THD to shwo you how the 6800 perform( its the same kinda of card except that its a leadtek, nto a bfg or asus.)

Look at 1rst 2nd and 3rd picture.Have you notice that there is only 5fps difference?( compare the a400thd to the 9800xt( the 9800 pro is very similar, like 5-7 % difference, if nto less.)

And even worst, look at the 4th 5th and 6th pics.( when they use AA/AF )They are both equal!!!!

So do you think spending 300$ on a 9800 pro is a better deal now than $500 on a 6800 128meg?

The good card is the GT(LEADTEK A400 gt thd).Check the difference between it and the 6800.Every time you see the GT getting 15-25 more fps than the 6800 or 9800xt.

YES, the 6800gt is $700. but im telling you, its nto worth spending $200 more for a card that will give you a 5-10% boost compare to a 9800 pro.The ONLY advantage to have a 6800 is that you will get better performance with doom 3 than with a 9800 pro, but beside that, THATS IT!

So you have been warned, the 6800 128meg just suck, for $500 dollars 🙂
