i have 4 memory slots, can i run 2 pair of diff speeds? 2700/3200?

More info on your exact hardware would help, but the big picture is basically that all the memory will want to run at the speed of the slower modules. If you have a serious need for 2GB of RAM then 2GB @ PC2700 is going to be better than 1GB @ PC3200 since it will keep the system from resorting to using the pagefile for twice as long. What motherboard do you have?

its a crappy one.ECS i think.p4 socket 2.4 in it right now.i wouldnt say i have the need, i just never put this other computer together, so i thought i might as well be using the extra stuff

That or maybe it will emit molten metal... JUST kidding 😀 The power supply can handle another ~10-20W of peak power consumption, you aren't skating on the edge already?

um, i duno what i can handle.i dont really care to much for pentium anymore anyway, so if i crapped out i wouldnt be too disappointed.how can i tell?

If you posted an exhaustive spec list and also the brand/model of the power supply, people could give you opinions on how well the PSU matches up to your power load. That would include CPU, video card, all drives, all cards, and we know it'll have four 512MB memory modules.

Here is my slower computer for example:

1GHz Duron
one 512MB memory module
Radeon 7500 🙁
one 15000rpm SCSI drive 😎
one optical drive
one floppy drive
56k PCI modem 🙁
memory-card reader

300W Inwin/Powerman power supply with 15 amps on the 12-volt rail. Comfortable. But then again I'm a power-supply overkill zealot 😀

Sometimes Mobos will have 2 slots of DDR and 2 slots of SDRAM which gives you 4 slots. Best you check the MOBOs specs to be sure the slots are all of the same configuration.
