Even if you have sp1, you need to have the proper registry entries. Is it a Maxtor drive? Maxtor has a utility on its site that will make it work automatically. It is Big Drive Enabler .
Thanks so far.. I have tried Maxtor's "big drive enabler" and still nothing
i tred to download any new bios updates here my model number is EP-EX5300NR but there are no new updates...
yeah - careful with big drive enabler, cos if you ever need to recover stuff after a system crash, or repair an installation - could have problems.
try never to use a software overlay unless there is no other choice.
Big drive enabler is not a drive overlay. I makes the correct registry entries to use 48 bit addressing. SP3 in win2k (which I use), and maybe it's SP2 in xp, has the capability, but is not set up by befault I believe.
in the bios when i first set it up it said 130 gig
and yes, i installed the drive using XP before i installed sp1
disk manager says 127.99 gig NTFS (healthy system) 151.48 gig unallocated (in windown right next to it) then in the first window labbled isc 0" 279.48 online
If you formatted the drive prior to installing SP1, you have a 128 GB partition. You need to either reformat the drive within SP1 (or SP2), or use a utility like Partition Magic to resize the partition.
oh..i thought it would pick it up after i loaded sp1
i guess i should have slipstreamed sp1 in the reformate of XP i just did. so that the new copy would have sp1 and when i installed it, it would have picked up the full partition... i will try partion magic
