I don't need a Sub since I have a HSU shipping to me in the next couple of days.
Currently, I'm looking at 2 floor standing speakers from Klipsch, RF-5, RC-7 center, and 2 RS35 for around $2100.

Any recommendation would be great and a place that has good price.

I already order a HSU sub STF-3.
My receiver is a JVC RX-DP10VBK (THX Ultra)

12-27-06
Took the plunge and bought these speakers.
548299937 Klipsch RS35 SINGLE SURROUND SPEAKER $ 229.88 2 $ 459.76

540999853 Klipsch RF-5 BLACK SPEAKER $ 420.74 2 $ 841.48

You have to give us more than that :)

Will you be needing a subwoofer?

Do you already have an amplifier?

Are you looking for a surround setup or stereo?

Do you want floorstanding/bookshelf/satellite speakers?

In short, what are you hoping to accomplish?

I have the Klipsch Pro media desktop speakers, love them at medium volume. When cranking it up, too many pops at high volume

I loooooooooooove the sound of horn loaded drivers (klipsch in particular), so take any of my advice with a grain of salt.

I guess it comes from my playing the trumpet

EDIT: What do you mean by "too many pops at high volume?" If you do not like the forward, bright sound of horn loaded drivers, then that might not be what you'd want to go for in a more expensive setup.

Fair enough.

There aren't a whole lot of good computer speaker options so the Promedias are certainly a good overall choice for computer usage.

If you have a $2k budget though, I would highly recommend going out and listening to some different options.

Paradigm, B&W, Klipsh, Boston, Def Tech, etc. should all be easy to find locally unless you're in the middle of nowhere.

There are also some great online options

Axiom, Onix Rockets, etc.

Do you already have a receiver picked out then?

EDIT: looks like you do :D

I agree with YoYo. You really can't take written opinions on this stuff. Go abuse the local ultimate electronics and listen to a variety of speakers (bright, warm, in between). Then, go buy what you like from a local hifi store cause I pretty much avoid UE at all costs.

I like them a lot. Certainly a very different sound compared to Klipsch.

I did some demo-ing of several different options including some Klipsch options (I think I tried RF-25s and RF-35s... it's been a while ;) )

I recently tried out some Axioms that I got for my parents for Christmas.

https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/spmclaughlin/web/Random/Axiom_Angle.JPG

If you find that you do like the Klipsch sound, Axiom would be a lot closer to that than the Rockets would be.

At hight volume, the music is distored, cracking and popping noise. But I guess it's like that since it's a computer speakers setup.

There's some more rough retail pricing from Paradigm and a few others (like B&W) here
http://www.bradfordshifi.com/prices.htm

If you were to buy a 5.0/7.0 set, you should be able to get a discount off the individual prices they charge as well.

Awww, I thought that was for 2 speakers. If you like the Klipsch sound, then most of the speakers that I'm familiar won't be to your liking.

Have fun auditioning though and good luck with the purchase...may you be able to resist upgrading for a whole year. (That was a blessing...one that I sometimes have difficulty achieving)

Currently looking at Axion a pair of M60 front, pair of QS8 for surround, and a VP150 for center.
Whole package is $1800 shipped.
Decision decision....

Definately try to listen to them before buying, or at least just buy a single pair of bookshelf speakers before taking the whole package.

Axiom has a demo period, but you'll still have to pay for shipping one way. Much cheaper to send back a pair of bookshelf speakers than a whole 5.0 package :p

If I was starting from scratch again and didn't know what I liked, I would go out and demo some different options locally to get an understanding of what some different sounds are like. Then I'd order a couple pairs of online brand internet options and demo those at home (and hopefully get an idea of how they compare to some of the retail options). Pick the best pair and then build a system around that while returning the other options that didn't make the cut :D
