Hi,

Got 2 stupid MCSE questions

1, Whats the difference between Server and Server for Enterprise? I have 2 books here and i am going over both of them and i am not finding that much of a difference.

2, I know NT4.0 will be exprired in 3 months, here is my dumb question. If a person does 4 tests.... and doesn't finish the other 2.. is he screwed?? or will he be allowed to finish them..

K Thanks

Hi Techno, I think I can answer your questions.

The question of "What's different in Server vs Enterprise test?" is very common along with "What's different in the Workstation vs Server test?"

Many people actually find the Workstation test to be the hardest of the 2 only because they make it their first test, and by the time they get to the Enterprise test they know NT usually pretty good (or got a lot better at memorizing the braindumps hehe)

Basically Enterprise asks you ALOT about trusts and trusted relationships with other networks. There is a large cross over of information between Server and Enterprise and most people line those 2 up quite close together when they set a date to take the test.

Now for your 2nd question.

Yes you are right, the NT4 track is being phased out at the end of this year in favour of the Win2k test.

The original NT4 required 4 core tests (Net Ess +3 NT tests) and then 2 electives for a total of 6. Win2k requires 7 tests total (i forget what they are), however if you at least get your 3 core NT4 tests (Workstation, Server, Enterprise), then you have untill the end of 2001 to take the upgrading test 20-240 to win2k and then only 3 other Win2k elective tests. Regardless if you get your NT4 now or later it will be obsolete by 2002 and you will HAVE to update to Win2k. You can either start the MCSE certification process at the NT4 level or the Win2k level, but if you start iwth the Win2k level you wiill be faced with more and harder tests than NT4. At least on the NT4 side you can get hte first core 3 and then only get 4 more tests on the win2k side to finsih off your cert, you'll have both NT4 and Win2k certification.

As for your electives, I believe some of the NT4 are being phased out, but others carry on into 2001 with win2k like proxy 2.0 for example.

You are just gonna have to look up on MS' web site to see what ones are going to be obsolete at the end of this year and which ones are not :)

check out this link
for more info, they have quite a lively discussion group there for every exam.

Hope that helps.

A+ N+ INet+ MCPx2. CNA and CCNA by the end of the year
