I have a Be Quiet Dark Base 700 mid-Tower case, 2 x 16gb of G. Skill Ripjaws memory, an old 1080ti but I can't seem to decide whether to go Intel or AMD; or which item from either.
I'm soliciting recommendations from the veteran builders on here. I will not hold anyone responsible for any recommendation. Your informed opinion is better than my uninformed gamble.
I want it to be somewhat forward looking - primary use is gaming with some video work on the side. Overkill doesn't bother me; it might be hanging on by a thread in 2 years. lol
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

3950x and X570 Aurps Extreme.

But seriously what are you planning on doing with the system. A 3900x or 3950x are the easy recommendations. They won't require new memory, they run on new consumer parts 95% the gaming performance with 140% the compute performance.

Really that's a lot of money for the 2 together. X299 is a dead end with the 3950x being so close you might as well stay consumer and go with that and TR3 being so much you would need to up your budget. If you need a million IO options then may a 10980xe might be an answer, but then you might have to skimp on your motherboard and lose some of the IO flexibility. Where as a 10940x isn't worth its silicon next to either the 3900x or 3950x but at least you get more room for the board.

If its gaming only you need to get a new card as well and that's $1200 + 550 for the 9900KS + $300 for the board.

So like I said 3900x or 3950x's are really the perfect tweener CPU's so the choice becomes what featureset do you want on the board. You can basically get 98% of what you may want at $300 leaving even with the 3950x $400 for memory and PCIe 4.0 SSD's.
