I'm upgrading two (2) computers and I need a vid board for one of them. I would like to spend around $100 but I'm guessing that will not buy me much. The card will be used mostly for gaming and should be Direct X 9 compatible. The best deal I have found so far is a Powercolor 9600 pro but that card is $140. If you have any recommendations please let me know ... thanks.

That would be the best deal for sure. If you are doing a lot of gaming, invest a little more to go up to a 9500/9600 for good DX9 performance. Ti4200's are at outrageously low prices now, IF you wanna venture to the dark side :disgust:

I have seen some deals for 5600 ultras for around $100 bucks. If you can find one in that price range, get it. If not, a 4200 is your best bet......

dont touch anything DX9, sub $100 and Nvidia, the 5200 sucks ass worse than the MX!
check internet prices you can save loads!

for instance, (ok ok i live in the UK) you can get a 9600XT from Connect 3D for about 116 pounds sterling, or 9600pro for 113.

(i dont think you get the HL2 coupon with them though)

i would check for Connect 3d kit, bear in mind they basically sell OEM, u get the card in a box with a few cables and old drivers.

you can find 9600np for less than 100 definatly and if your lucky you may find a 9500 non pro, and if its on a PCB where the ram in configured in a L shape, (2 chips to side and 2 on the top) would can unlock it to become a 9700non pro, with 8 pipes and 256 bit memory!!!!

Take otispunkmeyer's advice. DX9 is cutting-edge technology. A $100 card is not cutting-edge technology. See the problem?

So, it looks like a ti4200 128MB and a non-pro Radeon 9600 are about the same price (see pricegrabber). Which would you choose? The ti4200 has the advantage of supporting AGP2x, so I could use it until I upgraded the rest of my rig.
