Very few kids enjoy long car trips. I used to hate the 25 minute trip to our grandparents' house that we usually took each weekend.

As for the destination mentioned above ... I dislike any trip to Florida.

The closest you have been to Florida was the sperm I sent back home in your mom.

What part of stop the mom comments completely did you not understand?

We went on long drives between California and eastern Texas frequently, and I always loved them. Heavy metal, a soda to sip on, and watching the plains = bliss.

farthest i've ever ridden in a car was dallas, tx to lubbuck, tx when i was growing up, then i remember making that flight a few times, it was like 45 mins or something ridiculous (it's about 400 miles) 6-7 hour drive...

flew a few places growing up, cali, nevada, lousiana, arizona, south carolina, north carolina, florida, even Mexico...

You were damn lucky if you had one of those.

We had the 4 of us stuffed in the tiny sedan.

My sister, my mom and I drove from Michigan to Texas in a 2 door Plymouth Acclaim. No hotel, drove straight through.

That sucked.

I rode in the back seat of a Ford Galaxy from eastern PA to Canada when I was 12. My grandparents are from Saskatchewan, and we visited relatives and friends in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. It was awesome, love road trips ever since.

My brother and I drove from Orlando to Reno in 2 days in Chevy Aveo that had boxes stuffed anywhere they would fit

that was fun

Road trips were better when there were rear facing seats in the station wagon...

Lol SUV.

Back in my day, we didn't have no spacious, roomy SUV to take road trips in.

Damn kids these days. :colbert:
We had mom, dad, and six kids in a Travel Queen Family Truckster from Cheeseland to Florida. Indiana was boring, Georgia and northern Florida were boring but the rest was pretty neat. 100 miles to Ruby Falls, 99 miles to Ruby Falls, 98...

Had those. In fact, it's been just about a year since we just rid of our last station wagon with rear facing seats.

Everyone should drive cross country, especially East-West, to see how varied the land is.
Ohio to Florida, Ohio to California, Ohio to the Carolinas a bunch of times as a kid.
The most miles in one day, as a driver, was 900 miles (Columbus to Glenwood, MN). That was a chore.

when i was a kid we drove from maryland to arizona. we stopped along the way going there and back and it took 4 days each way to do it. i don't remember too much though as i was young. i remember a bunch of "dust devils" when driving through the flat desert though, and also remember seeing a tornado in the distance when we were driving through texas. i also remember seeing the petrified forest and when we stopped at six flags for a day in st. louis.

Sounds brutal. We always went on vacation in our Antarctic Blue Super Sports Wagon.

I never had much problem with long car trips. I spent most of my youth trying to get away from everyone and finish whatever book I happened to be reading at the time whether I was in a car or not. Long car trips were a great opportunity to do that. I think I had a game boy back then too. Between the two, I could pass practically any amount of time necessary in perfect comfort.

I was always kind of annoyed by people who would rather sit around complaining about how bored they were than attempt to do something to occupy their minds. If you think about it, being bored during a car trip is a failure on your part. You've got all this free time to do something that interests you. If you don't figure something out, that's on you.

Used to go on road trips a lot as a kid. My dad was a civil engineer so he'd go out to survey potential jobs before bidding on them. Been all around Southern Ontario. Sometimes we'd go camping as part of it. We also used to go on shopping trips to the US a lot when I was really little. Mostly around PA and upstate NY.

When I was very young (0-7), my family did road trips with a smallish station wagon. Was my mom, dad, me and my baby sister. We went to Orlando, Minnesota, and various places in Wisconsin and Michigan. Don't remember that much of it.

In 1987 my folks bought a van (full size Chevy van.) And we had tons of space. The van was great for road trips with mom dad, sister, brother, me, dog, and all sorts of camping shit or just luggage, or if we brought uncles / aunt/ grandma / cousins, etc with us. It wasn't a conversion van, it was just a full size van with 2 seats in front and then 2 benches behind and then another 6 or so feet behind the second bench for "stuff."

Anyhow, it was a good road trip car, though the fuel economy was horribad.

Since then I have done a few road trips in my 1994 Grand Am (2000ish went to South Dakota, 2002ish New Orleans, and many times Wisconsin.)
I've gone on some road trips with my 1999 Chrysler 300m (South Dakota to visit family acouple of times 2003ish, 2006ish, and several trips to wisconsin, michigan, quad cities. Trip to St Louis in 2007 or 2008.

In my current car, (2008 forester), I've gone to New Orleans, Baltimore, South Carolina, and various parts of WI and Mi over the last 3 and half years.

I generally like road trips of 300 miles or less the best, anything more than 5 or so hours starts to get uncomfortable.. But, I'm willing to drive 1000 miles every once in a while... Had great fun the last time I drove to New Orleans, had awesome fun in South Carolina, and I enjoyed my last cruise which departed from port of Baltimore.

Fiance and I are both working on losing some weight, and hopefully when we are a bit less enormous, maybe she'll be willing to fly, but until then, I'll drive wherever we go.
