*25. * okay that went alright.
*26. * WTF? Why did that change to "25. " *click "undo automatic renumbering"*
Why didn't it change?
*backspacebackspacebackspacebackspace26. * NO, I do not want to change it to "25. " again
*click "undo automatic renumbering"* I said UNDO MOTHERF'ER! Not "screw up the formatting of the 6 lines below it!"

Why is it, that all the automatic features in word are supposed to save time, yet I spend more time fixing them than they'd ever possibly save? This is why I do all my drafts in notepad. If I didn't have to follow some f'ing template from another employee I'd say "f' this" and go right back to notepad. If I ever find the numbnut that came up with the autonumbering setup, and then proceeded to make it NOT work, make "undo automatic renumbering" not work, and insert the feature "auto-screw-up-formatting-instead-of-undoing" I'll rip thier nuts off shove it down thier throat, and beat them with an IBM 84 key keyboard (you know the ones, they weigh about 40LBs). When I type "26. ", I don't mean "25. ". That was the last line. The line before it was "24. ". Why the hell does it think I want "25. " and why the hell doesn't undo do anything other than f' up the formartting?! Even the office clones manage to get this right!

End Rant . (for now, I have to go back and attempt this all over again)

So turn it off if you don't like it. (I always turn it off)

Sounds like a user that doesn't know how to configure his software to his liking.

I do turn it off, the problem exists that I have to work with other users that don't. Turning off "automatic renumbering" entirely was the ONLY way I could get that line to say "26. "

I think it's "National Microsoft Office constantly screws up" day or something. My co-worker was just swearing at his copy of excel, my copy of Word refuses to align two graphs I pasted in. When you use office as much as I do, you find all these stupid little bugs (like excel removing the formatting on your error bars if you have too many series) and they really get annoying after a while.

It looks like you're trying to move the mouse!
Would you like help?

- Take me to the "move the mouse" wizard!
- Just move the mouse without help.

[] Dont show this tip again.

The problem with all the current M$ Office products is that they automatically assume that they're smarter than the user.

Heh, In office 97, if you had automatic numbering in 1 portion of a list and not in another (1-5 automic, somehow 6-7 arn't), then there was a pretty good chance your entire document would corrupt.

Ah well, Word is an application that is nice but feels like it should be so much better. Like untapped potential.
