White gym socks look horrible. There are similar socks that are black, and those look horrible after a wash.

I agree, thinner dress type socks in black are better. I think brown, gray, and navy are much better, but that also depends on the shoes that are worn with them. Dark gray and dark brown are my favorites.

I wear white socks with tennis shoes, but wear black socks with black trousers, tan socks with khakis, etc.

I also only wear cotton or wool socks. No polyester or other synthetic fabrics.
