I hate when people talk in high pitched voices to babies or cats/dogs...

Not only do babies like it ... I've read that they actually learn/pay attention better to those types of voices.

I hate it when guys talk to their lady friends in high pitched voices. Had this suite mate in College who would instantly change his voice when he got a call from his girlfriend. Very annoying.

I might change my pitch some, but my wife and I decided not to talk babble/nonsense to our kids. My sister has kids, and it seems like none of them talk right (event he 12yo). My 7 year old has a great vocabulary, no speach issues, and is one of the top readers in her class at school. My 2 year old talks pretty well, and amazes people. I think it helps but it could all be in my head. The voice pitch doesn't bother me much, but the frickin babble and half words bug me alot.

Its excessive.

She says the same three things over and over again:

Kitty Can? (high pitched voice) --- food time
NOOO! (high pitched voice) --- anytime the cat does something wrong, at least twice per 15 minute period

*sigh*

Does anyone else find this horribly annoying?

Babies prefer it. People who do it to animals are stupid.

Many dogs can really differentiate between tones, and like the baby talk.

I don’t get it. It’s not like animals will learn how to talk. I hated when they do it to kids and adults.

I was considering it, but his response doesn't even make sense to the post that he takes issue with. And he also liked someone's comment that basically conflicts with his stance on the matter.

I think it's just more elaborate bot-testing.
Well I don’t know why people have a problem with this. Also the original person has a problem with it since that they see it as stupid too. I’m just stating my opinion. They seem to feel strongly about it and took it personally or else they wouldn’t post. It seem like you took it strongly or else you wouldn’t reply to my reply.

again, you make no sense. You liked someone that commented how animals respond to those tones better....but continue to dislike it when people do it.

Why?

It is also a biologically imprinted trait (early auditory development in human babies) that they don't really have the ability to process lower "mature" tones, so the high-pitched baby talk is actually a necessity. Human instinct to default to that tone when speaking with babies is simply an evolved trait. ...dogs, especially, are more sensitive to higher-pitched tones anyway so, again, it "makes sense."

We have a "general problem" one might say, of anthropomorphising our animals, especially pets....but I mean at the same time, they are our pets. We like them. All of this activity has been measured and shown to release stress and increase happiness in both humans and their pets.

So the real question is: what is it about those people that makes them so fucking bitter about other people (and their pets), behaving in fundamentally normal, and beneficial, co-evolved ways?

lol, no. Merely pointed out that you must feel very strongly to create an entire account on this tech forum to necro this 13 year-old thread. That your response to that post didn't even convey with the content of that post, made me consider that someone was testing a bot to crawl the internet and respond to comments in "human like way," and also use basic forum functions, such as the "like" button. ...it is the "not sensibly responding to the content" portion that makes me curious. We get a lot of bots/suspected bots around here.

:D

Obviously, you were searching this subject for some reason and somehow, who knows why, the googles put you onto this thread with a rather small amount of content, anyway, that hasn't been touched in 13-14 years.

OR.....WWYBYWB?

Anyone who dares question why humans go baby voice in front of a pet...

can go do hurtful things to themselves.

(Spoken as a boy/man who loved talking to his cat in such a manner)
