should they start calling me german american, even though ive never been to germany??? serious, just the word "black" covers it. just like the word "white" covers me. "african americans", 99.9% of them havnt even been in africa, doesnt that just make them "americans". also you can be and "african american" and be white, think about it....

I think african american is stupid too... black is so much better. we're white.. we don't call ourselves caucasians 😛

we watched a movie in socialogy(about africa) and my teacher refered to the blacks in it as "african americans" even though they had never been in america. hahaha, also there is a white kid in my school who is african american. he moved here from south africa 🙂

the white kid that IS african american thinks that it is hilarious when people call blacks african americans when he is white. he gets a kick out of it

Right, and by this naming convention Egyptian immigrants are also African-Americans.

That is true, everybody is african, cuz everyone's ancestors were from Africa some 50,000 years ago.

You can also call yourself asian, cuz your ancestors stopped by in central asia before going to northern europe.

Being black, I thought it was kinna weird growing up as well. Seems like to much consideration person to person, sounds good in a speach, or used in a way like "african american community". I don't here it used much at all anymore though.

Hyphenating groups of people is a socialist way of negating the "melting pot" tradition in America. Keeps people divided and promotes self victimization.

I can live with "African Americans" but I HATE the term "Persons of Color" - incredibly stilted and artificial - it screams "Invented by a comittee of scared, guilty white academics who don't actually know any black people."

black people = blacks
white people = whites

settle it?

Ignorant . . . don't you know racists have all kinds of subcategories to consider? I know you aren't including Jews with white people?! Don't forget the high yellow sand people and miscegenators trying to pass as white. ONE DROP buddy . . . ONE DROP and you've tainted the gene pool.

whites = human
blacks = human

that settles it.
Now that's the TRUTH.

why would the socialists create a division along racial lines which they would claim is just mystification by the capitalists?

So Mr. Divine Authority, Nick: What colour are Asians, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Easterners? Got colour to attach to each?

Life's got a lot more important things to worry about than what to call people. If people ask to be called something, then call them that. Would you like if I made your nick Mr. Divine Authority from now on since Nick is not a visible being and those numbers make it too complicated? Or how about attaching numbers to each being? I'll call you Human1985. :-/ The irony here is, I don't see Blacks going everywhere and making an issue of it that they be called African-Americans. And I certainly don't see them do that when they're doing the United Negro fund.

By the way, people do say Italian-American, Irish-American, etc. 🙂
