My plan is up on April 2, so I go to their store today because I wanted to upgrade my phone and get the Motorola T720 (I'm using the Startac 7868 now) and upgrade my plan to a better deal, which of course would mean signing for another year or two, which I don't have a problem with. Well, they tell me they can't work any deals on the phone itself, even though I have been a customer of theirs since it was Bell Atlantic Mobile (about 5 years), always paid my bill on time, and was willing to sign for another 2 years. They wanted me to plop down $230.00 for the phone, saying there is a $100.00 mail in rebate, so I'd only be paying $130.00 for the phone. (Oh, you'd have to trade in a working digital phone as well to get your rebate, which is b.s.)

Well, seeing how this phone isn't even top of the line anymore, there was no way in hell I'd pay that, considering that just this past Christmas they were selling it for $149.99 with the same rebate. I told the CSR exactly that, but they still wouldn't budge on the price of the phone. I told them that T-Mobile has the same phone WITH the camera for less than $100.00, and I'd go with them if I had to when my plan was up, but still, it didn't seem to phase them that they'd be losing a customer. The CSR told me to call the 1-800 customer service number and speak to them, as they can sometimes work something out.

Sooooo, I call today, and the woman offers me this 'deal': Buy the phone for $230.00, and instead of going through the rebate hassle, they'd credit my account $100.00. She gave me a few days to think about it, but I don't like the idea of giving them that much money up front. I'd even be happy with getting the deal they offered around Christmas, but she said that wasn't possible. Any suggestions? I think I will just wait it out, and if they don't have any decent sales on phones by the time my plan is up in April, I'll move onto another service, even though I really don't want to. I can't believe they wouldn't negotiate the price of a phone in order to keep a customer.

lol i had the similar situation~

but since their csr treated me so badly~

they made up for it by basically giving me the phone for free~ :)

after rebate and the additional credit they gave me~

and when you sign a 2 year contract

it's 179.99 not $230 bucks

the 230 is with 1 year contract

The workers in the store can't do anything at all for yah. They have to go straight by the book.. whatever deals that are made is done with the main compnay, which is the CSR on the phone. And with the CSR, YMMV with each one so you can always keep on trying.

Furthermore, $130 after rebate for the Motorala T720? I remember looking at that several months ago and remember it being free after $100 trade in. Unless I'm thinking of a different model (was there a T710?), but I'm pretty sure...

You can try Radio Shack and see how much their phones are. They very by each store as it depends on how much the manager decides to sell it at. I visited all the local stores and I couldnt get the Samsung A310 anywhere for less than $200. Went to Radio Shack and the guy said $180 + 1 year contract... came back the next day and talked to the manager and gave it for me for $150 for another 1 year extension on my contract. Got to keep the same phone number and everything.

Go to a different store and try to work a better deal or switch service. Verizon is known for their awesome coverage so I would stick with them. Some stores are verizon retail and others just selling Verizon under an agreement with them. Also look on Ebay and other internet sites because they constantly have great deals on phones.

This was a Verizon retail store that I tried negotiating with. Grim, I think I remember seeing that a few months ago too, which is astounding to me how they are still charging $180+ for this phone with a contract. Isekii, how did you go about getting your deal?

Your plan isn't up yet so just calm down. Like any other store verizon has sales on phones, last winter they did the t720 for cheap, I think they are or just were doing the v60, they'll have another special again before long, maybe it will be a good one. I don't think its all that unfair.

do NOT go to a verizon store if you want a good deal on the phones. you will have to pay and go by the book. they do not negotiate on anything.

if you want to negotiate or get a cheaper price, you need to go to the third party dealers. its pretty much the only way to do it, BUT if you try to terminate your contract early, you'll not only pay the verizon fee but also the third party fee because they will lose their commission.

Typically the stores that are selling just about every provider and their phones are cheaper than the retail Verizon stores.

FWIW.

You're trying to get something that they don't offer, and you're pissed?

You know that the phones usually cost them a lot more than they offer them for, right? Ask them what the full retail price is on the phone, and the wholesale price too. The answer might surprise you just enough to make you agree that $130 isn't such a bad deal.

bit of a deceiving title. it's one thing to be angry at a company for not delivering on what it's supposed to do, but quite another when you're trying to get something extra (in this case, preferential treatment for being a loyal customer). as some of the people said above, the store workers can only do so much. i'm not saying you shouldn't keep trying by either going to another walk-in store or calling verizon directly until you find someone who might help you (i'd do the same thing); just that you really can't get mad at verizon for how they've treated you so far.

btw, if you get to keep your old phone per that last offer (where they just credit your account), that sounds like a good deal to me.

good luck.

t

p.s. i'm a verizon wireless (and verizon local phone and verizon dsl) customer and have had only excellent customer service throughout the years (which is why your title kinda struck a chord with me).

Heh, to be honest, I've never had a problem with their service (cellular) or their customer service. I honestly was under the impression that they'd be able to play with the phone prices a little. I didn't think those were set in stone by any means.

Well I got it for what I got cuz mine got escalated to corporate..
I had problems with my previous phone and went to the verizon store to get it taken care of.
They treated me like I was the culprit in having my phone get all screwy. ( the phone wouldn't hold a charge )
It was still under warranty so I took it in they were accusing me that I was doing it purposely etc.....
Anyhow I filed a complaint with them and one of the people that handles problems like this took care of my problems... got in contact with the managers that were operating the store that gave me problems etc..

oh... btw~ the problem that I had~ i took it to a diff verizon wireless store and they had no trouble swapping out my battery b/c it was faulty

Went on the same day~ like 20 min apart.

Verizon's customer service blows ass. I've called multiple times for numerous problems and everytime I get some d!ckhead who couldn't care less if I stuck with them or not. The only one good experience I got was when I complained about a reconnection charge and the guy was nice about it and tacked on a 100 free minutes to my plan each month. Come April, I'm going with AT&T.

There cellular reception is the best I've ever experienced though.

Best reception, huh? Well I agree with you there. Their superior network is their retention plan. If you switch, they figure it's your loss, not theirs, so therefore, they don't need to care whether you stay or not.

well they do know that they're probably the best carrier out there for wireless.

it all depends on your area but even if I was offered a free phone from sprint or att i wouldn't switch until their service gets better.

I'd rather have an outdated phone with good service than a top of the line phone with sh!t service

Call up the CSR, and talk to the manager, he/she can give stuff for free, just tell them u are pissed off and that you were treated badly. They should give u a free phone, or some awsome deal, after a little bit of argueing. and if that doesn;t work, talk to the managers manager. I did this with ATT, and Tmobile, they both gave me free phones, and if they screwed up just alitte. i called them up, told them how i felt, and they would credit my accouont for what ever they messed up on. You have ot be firm, but not too bitchey with these people, but remember its not the CSR u are mad at its the company, don;t make it personal or it can get ugly.

How is it my loss if I switch? Last I checked, it would be their loss. Forfeiting potential business due to incompetent customer service is not the way to earn money. A good company knows that to keep customers, they need to provide a good product AND good service. Being subject to their terrible customer service is not worth it for me to continue on their network. Their retention plan just isn't good enough.

I really don't feel bad for you. This is a growing trend among cell phone companies because of the huge revenue hit they take each year on equiptment. If you really want to get pissed that's fine, but think of one thing. Verizon Wireless sells network access on the their network, they're not in the phone manufacturing business. Hell, I'd take a $100 dollar credit on my account anyday.

Not quite. Good cellular reception is all based upon which area you are in. While Verizon has the best overall service, it doesn't mean they provide good service in all areas. Same applies to the other companies. I have many friends on AT&T and Sprint who are very happy with their reception in their respective areas.

In any case, I don't even know why I'm saying this. It should be obvious.
