I expressed this myself on page 4.
And if you have the money and the inclination to do so, then go ahead. Have fun. I won't condemn or ridicule you for doing it. I never have...
Page 4??? Are you using the default forums settings???

What's wrong with using the default settings?

Sadly, telling other people how they ought to run their lives are the only jollies some pathetic people get.

You gotta maximize the number of posts per page. 100 per page is the only way to roll yo.

Yeah, I can see how using the default forum settings has hampered my ability to post here at AT. ;)

Why would an RPG have a monthly fee anyways?

Triforceofcourage- Right on!

Schadenfroh- Why do so many people just not get it? It's totally different from most RPGs. The point is they could have carged, and people would still pay. They didn't thank you NCsoft.

Have you played any of the Beta's?

That's not a good analogy. The cable company has to pay for the programming and pay for the equipment to deliver that programming.

Anyway, I will not "pay to play" any game, ever, period.

not pay to play? How do you manage that without either 1) pirating or 2) getting stuck with "free" games?

the closest thing i get to "free" is trading games. ;)

If your reply is honest, he means monthly fee games - and he doesn't know what he's missing, as the mmorpg experience is truly unique. If you're being sarcastic, (but he still doesn't know what he's missing :p)

If so, he was being very specific. . . . He DID say: "ANY game - ever"; not "just" MMORPG . . . i was asking for clarification . . . anyway, if he BUYS games . . . he DOES pay to play - there is no other way to look at it . . . . a FPS - for example - may last 25 hours (if it is very "long") and even have some replay value . . . a RPG seems to last twice as long (for that same forty dollars) . . . . i guess it's a "fair deal" to have unlimited play for $40 + $180 a year . . . .

as for me, i can't play online . . . . and i don't care much for RPGs anyway - i am playing KotOR right now; it being my FIRST rpg (that i ever "stuck" with) . . . . frankly, i don't care for the incredible detail and micromanagement required . . . i imagine the world of the MMORPG is even far more detailed . . . .
thanks, but no thanks . . .

Yeah, but he quoted "pay to play", and the phrase is a common one used with or in reference to MMOGs.

On MMOGs, they're certainly not for everyone, but the experience is definitely unique, and you'd be hard-pressed to understand it without having tried it.

from the context, i have to believe you are right . . . .

certainly not for those on dial-up . . . . . :p

anyway, TEN hours into (the original) KotOR, i am finally getting to like it . . . . who knows?. . . IF cable ever comes to my road, i may even experience MMORPG

apoppin, KOTOR was the first RPG that I ever got hooked on, as well. (Not including the original Ultima on the Apple II, or the infamous Infocom games. ;) )

i have a 'pile' of RPGs i never played more than an hour or two :p
KotOR clearly is a "quality" game.

Damn it is frustrating for a FPS addict . . . .

however, i am getting the 'hang' of it . . . the first few hours were mostly "lost". . . however, i have my party together and my plan and am making good progress . . . and i save . . . a lot ;)

i seriously doubt that RPGs will ever become my favourite type of game . . . . but if i finish this one, no doubt KotOR II will be "easy" . . . . i don't mind "expanding" a bit . . . what i really like is the FPS/RPG hybreds (like DE). . . .

edit . . . OK, back to KotOR

My biggest problem with RPG's has always been that I just don't have a whole lot of time to invest in them. Being a father/husband with a full-time career just doesn't leave me with the video game time I crave! ;)

But KOTOR (and its sequel) seems to be ok with that. If you put it down for a week, it takes a little getting used to again, but it's not like you're totally lost. I recently got Fable, and hope it's more of the same. Although with WoW on my PC, I'm not sure when I'll play any other game. ;)

WoW is the same for MMORPG's. Even if you play it only a couple of days a week, it's still a blast!

I get to play games for a few hours per week (literally 3-4, and that's taking away time from more important things :p). I don't see how anyone has time to play those games. :p

Do you watch any TV?

i gave up watching tv (except news during dinner - great for the digestion) and limit DVDs to 'occasionally' :p

Games are my stay-at-home entertainment (i have other more "active" sports . . . but that's exercise) ;)

(ATF would be my other 'entertainment' . . . when i am playing a game as KotOR, ATF is my "break" from play . . . i have been playing KotOR ALL day (it's raining again . . . so no work outside today and no "clubbing" tonight either.)

it's all good

but there would be no point to playing WoW or any other MMORPG on dial-up . . . someday cable or DSL will reach here . . . . :brokenheart:
