I'm posting in a very on-topic manner in this thread. I don't like the MMORPG genre of gaming, I don't see where I'm trolling.Originally posted by: Gurck

Calling players addicts is what, then?Originally posted by: Megatomic
You know, I'd play an MMORPG if I only had to pay for 1 expense.
I'd happily pay for the game content (the game box in the store), or I'd pay the subscription fees. But not both. And if you have the money and the inclination to do so, then go ahead. Have fun. I won't condemn or ridicule you for doing it. I never have...

Although I agree with the OP, I also agree with what the others are saying. Which is why I would never, ever pick up an MMORPG and play it. They are raping gamers in the a$$ if you ask me.
I'd rather play CS:S which was a freebie for hours
Hahahaha, I'm neither too young or too stupid to play. And this is what I was talking about earlier, say something bad about your game de jour and watch you explode.Originally posted by: GurckActually I'm glad many like yourself don't play. One of any MMORPG's biggest attraction is their low number of those young enough and/or lacking enough in intellect to have to put down what they know nothing about out of FUD. Equating it to battle.net shows just how little you know about the genre & what it takes to launch & maintain a MMOG.

Just go play your game Gurck, does it really matter if we all like it?
ps - I don't care how much it costs to launch and maintain the game. I didn't have anything to do with them beginning the project, I have no responsibility for it's success. I don't give a rat's ass for their bottom line.
pss - I'd love to see a demographic of those playing MMORPGs. My guess is that there are tons of kid's who should be doing their homework or working part time to fund their social lives not playing games.

No doubt.
People have the nerve to critisize those who don't play MMO's? HehEh, I find this highly ironic considering the type of person who DOES play them. Like I said before, I have lots of geek friends, and the one's who play MMO's have the worst social lives. And can barely even hold down a job.
Seriously. I would compare some of the people who play WoW to others I know who are addicted to Meth. Or actually, a more apt comparisson is Heroin. Either way, MMO's are like a drug, I know people who play all night for days, getting 2 hours of sleep a night and can barely make it to work. Or school, or wherever they need to be. Its the same thing I see with alcoholics and junkies.

If people that play MMOs cant get women then...
Then why is half of my guild married and 2 people i grouped with today had to log , one to pick up his gf and another had to go and help his g/f because she had fell and injured her knee?
Bout half my guild is married as well, and I broke off my last relationship because it was headed in that direction and I'll gouge my eyes out with a spork before getting married. Just more typical ATOT know-it-all 15 year olds spreading FUD.Originally posted by: Schadenfroh

I can't stand people that complain about companies making money...your statement of "I will never pay for cable" tells me you are probably one of the direct-TV pirates, or you only pay for a cable modem connection but use it to watch TV anyway....you are also likely a software pirate by your stance.
me too.Originally posted by: Megatomic
I just love watching the MMORPG addicts get spun up over this stuff. It's like watching the atheists go rabid over deist threads in ATOT.

That's odd, what I find so amazing is the interest those who profess not to be interested take in mmorpg threads. Most people simply don't click on threads which don't interest them, but the minds of trolls and CS 'k1dd13z' seem to work differently..Originally posted by: Megatomic

A movie ticket costs 8$ and that's for 2 hours of entertainment, most people play mmp's for 20 - 40 hours a week, do the math, it's a bargain. Also the badnwidth required to run a bunch (how many servers does WoW currently have?) 1000+ person servers is immensly expensive.

Blizzard is maximizing their profit, which it has every right to do. In this case, however, it seems a bit excessive. I used to think of Blizzard as a company that made good games with excellent services at a reasonable price BECAUSE it wanted to provide its customers with the best possible playing experience. WoW causes me to seriously reconsider my opinion of the company and its motivations; $12/month may be standard, but it doesn't seem reasonable, given the guaranteed success of any Blizzard game.
They had an opportunity to be different and they didn't take it. It just disappoints me.
Lets take this out of the video game box and put a different spin on it. Seeing that the $12/mo is very close to how much people pay to see the latest flick in the theatres...
A movie costs $45 million dollars to make and show it to critics first (normal). The critics give the movie high acclaim calling it the "Casablanca of the 00's". People flock to it on dates, paying their $10 a ticket and love it.... They tell their friends and quickly the movie turns a huge profit in the movies. People go see the movie multiple times and this increases the profit of the movie. It's released on DVD after winning academy awards, and people pay $15 - $20 for it for years to come. In a few years, they release a criterion collection version of the DVD for $30.
By your logic, because the movie was released and was a smash, they should have done something to lower ticket prices, or the cost of the DVD so they would be 'nice' to everyone.
And that is for something that you watch. You dont interact with. There's no upkeep. There's no new content being added (exept perhaps on the DVDs). They're not fixing the boom mic that you see in certain shots...
Finally you mention that you dont know what the company's motivation is. I'll tell you what it is... THE BOTTOM LINE.

I think when Megatomic was talking about MMO addicts, he had a good point. Just read the message boards and you'll see. If a server goes down for an hour, it's like the end of the frickin' world to some of these people. And don't get me started about all the whiners complaining about their race/class being underpowered or whatever.
As for server issues with WoW, I guess I just am really lucky or something... In the three weeks I've been playing on Icecrown, there's only been one instance where I couldn't log on. So, I created another character on Argent Dawn and had fun there.
If you think one particular server is so bad, why not just start a character on another server?
