No one? No one has ever selectively cultured cells, bacteria or viruses in a controlled environment for things like chemical resistances or selective genetic mutations based on environmental pressures?

Of course not. No scientist in their right mind has ever done anything like this. Ever.

Not trying to pick on him, but I have noticed he's absurdly naïve about everything other than his work. It's fairly mindblowing to be honest.

I love Red Squirrel. He is my favorite internet naif. So clueless. And then when he thinks about and builds some of his projects, he seems like a pretty sharp guy. It's great.

Last year, Michio Imafuku and Takashi Haramura reported that the dark flies still had their body clock. If they exposed the flies to three and a half hours of light, the insects became active and sluggish in a 24-hour cycle.

I don't want to shut down every 24hrs. Oh no, no more light! Better shut down so that we don't die.

Watch, we'll eventually trace that genetic code back to some of the first photosynthetic bacteria on the planet. Damn legacy issues.

I would have believed the whole "Architect" theory from the Matrix, but when the same actress didn't play the Oracle in the second movie and the CGI seemed cheaply made all of the sudden, I temporarily lost faith in Scifi.

Yeah the 24h timing, then moon cycle, then seasonal/annual and life time. Pretty amazing how many clocks a living organism can have hard encoded in their DNA.
