This afternoon the wife and I took our 4 and 3 year old to Red Robins for a late lunch. We get our table and there is a large party across from us with about 12 people and several children of all ages. About 5 minutes after we got there this high pitched screaming started from one of the children that looked about 2. The wife and I have a rule that if our children start screaming we take them outside and we have enforced this before. We are also tell our children no screaming indoors period. Well that was happening was one of the children that looked to be about 6-7 was chasing the 2 year old around the restaurant and this what is causing the screaming. Another rule we have with our children is no running in restaurants period. One of the adults at the table was trying to get the 6-7yr old to stop to no avail. Nobody was getting up and grabbing the older child by the arm and telling her to knock it off and sit down. This went on for a while and it makes it tough when our children see kids doing this and they have to stay in there seats. I was explaining to our children that it was not polite to run around and scream in a restaurant right when one of the parents was passing by trying to chase down the 2 year old because they were getting ready to leave. They gave me a very dirty look because they heard me saying that there children's behavior was inappropriate in a restaurant to our children. It was very nice when they left because the noise level dropped considerably. I hate it when adults will not control there children at restaurants and refuse to take them outside when they act inappropriate. Just thought I would get that rant off my chest.

But you can't tell a child he's doing something bad! That will hurt his precious self-esteem, and he'll be traumatized for life!

Next time, use the tried-and-true method of ensuring quiet stays at restaurants: A chloroform-soaked rag.

Cliffs:

Kids running around at an eatery.

OP annoyed by high pitched wails of a 2 year old being pestered by a 6 year old.

OP was concerned that his kids had a tough time see all this - perhaps wondering why they other children can get away with it and they can't.

OP explained to his kids that this was rude and inappropriate behavior.

Parents of kids acting up overheard OP saying this to their kids and gave them a 'look'.

Parents of kids left with said children and all wasy quiet.

OP feels that adults should control their children.

There :)

BTW: I totally agree with OP
