I hate these mandatory-optional company info sessions

Lots of companies are recruiting on campus. There seems to be a large trend for these companies to hold an info session the night before their on-campus interviews. However, these sessions tend to be so general about the company to not provide much detailed information to any single person. Most of the time you could gain more information from spending half the time browsing their web site than listening to the recruiting drone. Of course, most of these people at the info session never researched the company and ask some of the most inane questions or questions that are so specific that I would guarantee they are the only one in the audience to care about the answer.

So why do I go? Every one of these companies take attendance and if you don't show up but you have an interview, it reflects poorly and lessens your chances of going along in the process. This campus recruiting process is so stressful with all of its obnoxious nuances and weed-out steps.

is that a fact about attendance affecting the interview and hire or did you hear from someoen that heard it from someone.

Well, I doubt this attendance thing is true. I missed the info session for the company I currently work for when they did on-campus recruitment. Also, helping with the recruitment process this year, judgement seems to be based on qualifications alone. I doubt anyone will bother wasting time to cross-reference you.

Of course, if they ask "Did you attend our info session?" during the interview, then you're going to either have to lie or explain yourself.
