I hate the Spurs but now it gives me more reason to hope they lose

Popovich is a douche bagText

Quit whining, no one was bitching about you when you had the first pick to get Duncan and have him teamed up with Robinson. Maybe there should be a trade committee as well eh? I can't stand watching the Spurs play and I hope anyone besides the Spurs make it to the championship round.

And you're a fan of what team? And good luck, there was some bullshit calls in the game today, along with that Dallas game a week ago ... we'll see in a few months though - Spurs will be there and a team that can actually play a 7 game series.

not really sure what pop is complaining about... teams trade good players for expiring contracts all the time.

He's basically saying, "There should be a trade committee so that I can prevent advantageous trades to competitors of mine."

What a douche.

With the minor exception of their handling of rookie contracts, the NBA by far has the worst method for doing salary cap/ trade regulations. I find it hard to complain about somone ranting against crap for being crap.

It appears if that's true, it'd be pretty f'ed up of West did this ...

yea ... besides, what would the Spurs offer? an aging robert horry?

Expiring contracts of someone like Horry, Elson, Barry, Finley? We have multiple, and we're expecting to be 18mil under cap space this summer. There should be a rule in place to prevent GMs exclusively trading to their old teams when they manager another, or even prevent them from working with other teams.

Would salaries have matched up? I would've preferred the two draft picks over having money available for some FAs. Who would want to go to Memphis?

That trade smelled iffy from day one.

And as for Pop. I like the guy, he seems like a straight shooter. If he has something to say about the trade then let him...coming from someone like Pop I would think you should take what he has to say seriously. The fact that he spoke up leads me to believe that there are alot more NBA coaches/executives that might be feeling the same way about that trade.

Not like there is anything anyone can do about it though..its the Laker's for crissakes. Practically sports royalty.

West already said he had no part in the deal, and didn't find out until after it was done. I think West's reputation is such that there is no reason to believe that he isn't telling the truth.

What I don't get is, people are acting like the Grizzlies got swindled in the deal. First they got Javaris Crittenton who as a Laker fan, I was sad to see go, he will be a star in the NBA. They also are immediately able to relieve themselves of $9 million in salary when Kwame's contract expires this year, two first round draft picks, the rights to Marc Gasol who is playing extremely well in Europe, and cash.

Chris Ford had an article last week with various other scenarios for a Gasol trade and they were all ridiculous. Most involved teams giving up 5-6 players in return for Gasol, which is completely unrealistic because 1)The team giving the players would have had to suddenly sign free agents, and 2)The Grizzlies would had to cut people just to take on the new players. Not to mention that teams are very reluctant to trade that many players for one.

Here is the bottom line, the Lakers deal represented the single largest expiring contract the grizzlies could get, along with talent in Javaris.
