When I logged on to server XXX.XX.XXX.XX in the test lab to see why the XXXXX processor were not running, I got a most cryptic message. I have no idea what it is or what to do about it. Could you take a look at it?

You should beat them over the head with said server until they tell you what the message was.

I'm a firm believer that all error messages presented in any form in any capacity should be auto-copied onto the "clipboard" for easy pasting.

What's the problem? Isn't the only reason you have your job is because of people like him?

1: I got an error!
2: What did it say?
1: I don't know, I closed the window.
2: :|

Happens all the time.

Why not log into the server and run 'ps -aux' or 'top' and see what message you get.

The problem is the tester is not doing their job properly. They are not supposed to make the developer play 20 questions, they are supposed to give the developer enough information to investigate the problem and duplicate it if possible.

I have the same problem at my company, usually with the marketing and training guys, not the testers. I get a bug report like "XYZ report doesn't work." I go look at the report and get no error message. It usually turns out that there was something in the report results that was incorrect, which may or may not have been a problem in the report itself and certainly wasn't discernable from an error message that says "XYZ report doesn't work." I shouldn't have to validate every piece of data in hundreds of fields to figure out what that means.

Use one of the following:
1) Can't help you. NEXT!!!
2) It's pretty cryptic to me, too. Let me know how all that works out.
3) Everything's working fine here. Must be your computer. Have you rebooted?
