Cliffs:
Ironwing has local phone service with Qwest, cheapest possible, local only plan.
Qwest gets eaten by CenturyLink.
CenturyLink offers no contract, no bundle, no problems DSL
CenturyLink dumps Qwest website, including user accounts.
Ironwing goes to CenturyLink site to read details.
In order to read details applied to his area Ironwing has to sign in.
Ironwing learns his Qwest account is no more, needs to set up new account simply to learn details of offer.
Ironwing learns that CenturyLink's account signup procedures are so bad that if you have a customer's telephone number and zip code, you can highjack the customer's account.
Ironwing sets up account.
CenturyLink site crashes.
Ironwing cusses (not the first time in this process but this mention should be sufficient for this cliffs version).
CenturyLink site comes back up.
Ironwing tries to sign in. Account doesn't exist. Ironwing notices that website has diverted to the wholesalers' login section.
Ironwing tries to navigate back to residential section. It be gone.
Ironwing goes and washes the dishes, comes back and tries again.
Ironwing logs in.
Goes to check offer details.
Everything on shopping cart page says that 12mb/s DSL will cost $19/month, no hassles, no contract, no bundles.
Ironwing notices "important pricing info" link.
Ironwing clicks link.
Ironwing learns that actual price requires a bundle and is $64/month. The actual pricing information pop-up nowhere mentions the $19/month price splashed all over the shopping cart page.
Ironwing leaves disgusted but not surprised.

Could be worse.
Way out here in the middle of nowhere, my ONLY option is Windstream. (Well, actually there is WildBlue, but it is slow, unreliable & costs as much as the Windstream package!)
No dry-loop DSL, only phone service for $69 mo., add 3 MB DSL for another $20 mo., so basically, I'm paying $20 mo for 3 MB DSL & $69 mo. for a FAX line!

"The football's like a one-man cold to Ironwing. Ironwing's the only man catchin' it, Ironwing's the only man comin' down did it."

Companies always suck after they get bought out. It's a sad reality. As a small company, things run smooth and people have more control and power to continue to make things better. That company gets bought out, and it's now the red headed step child in some geographical location that is actually unknown to the big company.

Similar situation with my company, we're the local phone company, got bought out years ago. Our CEO does not even know what our city is or where it is. So customer service has gone down. As a company we do our best with what we have, but because of the big lack of control when it comes to processes and such, we can't deliver the customer service we used to.

Companies get bought out for profit. Some bean counters have figured out a way to shave costs and increase revenue.

Or a name becomes so tarnished, that they change the name with little fanfare Pretend to Gertrude of the company and follow in steps above
