I parked near SJSU where it says SUN permit required today thinking that I'm safe, but I got a parking ticket because apparently SUN is some abbreviation for some kind of permit....

This is bull!

San Jose is the most boring place in the world. I grew up there and think even Davis is exciting compared to it :p. But yeah, parking downtown is terrible and I can definitely sympathize with you there.

Nope, especially since it's all caps. Why would a permit be required on Sunday? You're next to a college campus with a sign that says that <blank> permit is required...

I know it all makes sense at hindsight, but I was running late and this was the first time I parked near sjsu campus. maybe it's near residential area that the permits are for the residents there?

Yes, that's exactly why. They don't want people parking for class in residential areas. I live in a residential area right next to campus and they do require permits. Probably about 10 people a day don't see the signs or think they don't come around very often and get a ticket. Believe me, it's a money maker for the city. They come by every 30 mins or less.

No, I think that it might be the name of a type of permit. I can't think of a good reason to require permits on Sundays only, especially if specific hours are not posted.

They don't ticket on weekends here. I doubt you can apply what happens in Hawaii to everywhere in the entire world.

i got a ticket for parking in "church parking only" on the side of the street 4 blocks from the nearest church. on a friday night.(denver) in casper wyoming i got a ticket for parking in tractor parking only, when it was snowing outside. youd be suprised

Right, but they don't ticket here on weekends, so "everywhere" is wrong. I'm not saying that no one tickets on the weekends, just that in many places they do not.
