I hate stupid drivers

Today, around 8:30pm, I was driving home from a friend's house. It was just about turning civil dusk (where there's light, but not a lot).

Anyway, I live in a small city just outside of LA and some of the roads are small and poorly lighted. There's this one lane (in each direction) road that I take home that's poorly lighted, small, and curvy. Additionally, it's a street with houses on both sides, and many families with children live in the area. There were still some people outside, so my thought was that there would probably be some children.

I was going about 28mph (2mph below the limit) when a minivan sped up from behind me and started tailgating. I saw him in my mirror and rose my speed to about 35mph (5mph above the limit; I sometimes go 40mph on this road, but only in the daytime). The other driver kept on tailgating me, so I tapped my brakes twice (I thought this was the universal signal for "you're tailgating me, stop tailgating").

I kept on tapping the brakes since I knew a stop sign was coming up but the other guy wouldn't let up. The stop sign was after a small curve so I started braking a little earlier and was about to have to do a rolling stop when the minivan clipped the rear left end of my bumper. :|

I get out and the guy starts asking what my problem is, how come I wasn't going faster. A couple people who were outside watering the lawn/enjoying summer on their patio/just happened to be outside at the time came over and started looking on. I'm kinda thankful they were there cause that guy was built and he could have definitely taken me. We exchanged insurance information and he slipped me some money (I guess as a bribe to not call it in; there wasn't any damage to my car, just a scratch, but I'm getting a new car before summer ends).

As he drove away, I noticed not one, but two little kids in the backseat (little = 6 years or younger).

Cliffs:
1. Guy starts tailgating me on dark, curvy, residential street
2. I speed up a little bit
3. Guy keeps tailgating
4. I do rolling stop, guy clips my bumper
5. Guy driving dangerously with 2 small kids in back.

Yeah, I don't think it happens a lot. I'm 16 and I've been driving for only two months

I had a guy tailgate me on the highway, swerve over 3 lanes, get in front of me, and the hit the breaks almost causing me to rear end him.

The back of the car was full of baby stuff, likely including the kid.

People's stupidity when driving is universal, and such minor things as their children riding with them are no impediment.

An actual serious response? NEVAR!

Haha, but seriously, once I saw the kids, I realized how much of an a-hole this guy was.

wow. better watch out. i mean, don't want that to happen again with all the psychos in the world. what, you're like 18? and gonna have your parents buy/lease you a new g35 or something better? i'd be more cautious of looneys out there.
besides, a lot of people travel back and forth between alhambra -> pasadena using san marino, so you know that you're bound to bump into a whacko.

i've never been in an accident, so i dont know how this would affect your insurance. prob increase it even if you're faultless

I'll add my story from this morning here.

I am on a 2 lane road and driving next to a white infiniti it looked like. I must have been in the blindspot or something as the driver decides to change into my lane. I was neck and neck with the car, side by side going the same speed. I slam on the breaks and slam on the horn but the driver feels the need to continue into my lane. They miss me by inches. I speed up and change into the other lane and we stop at the light and I roll my window down. Its of course some 20 something girl on her cell phone and she turns to me and turns to me and starts laughing as if everything is ok and its something to laugh about. If only her window was down.

If only we could buy $100 signs or $2.00 paint to inform the rest of the world. It seems people have quickly forgotten what the left lane was for. In other rants, why is it that slow semis think they have the right to stay in the left lane for long periods of time without passing anyone at all.

it's because their vehicle can manhandle any other vehicle if challenged.

This is where you get out of your car, kick a nice dent in her Daddy's Infiniti, and when she gets out going "TEE HEE WTF" you drive off.
