Having to be ready to leave on a moment's notice when they come to show it is a pain the the butt...worse they call to tell you when they will drop by then never show up. This is annoying, way too much cleaning and lights being turned on to make the place look bright...

Where do you go when they come over? For a walk? Hit the mall? All the houses we've moved, we moved first so the house was always empty.

I know what you mean, I am in the process of selling mine. One couple was at my house for an hour and a half. I was down the street watching and waiting for them to leave. We just had someone back out of their bid because we wanted the normal 72 hours after closing to turn over the house, they wanted 36....heck, give us time to move out. Screw them anyway. All I do know is that I have to sell my house by July 27th, if not...the house I have a contract on is no longer viable and I will lose a $13,500 incentive. If that happens, I will no longer be able to afford the house.

We're they there w/ the inspector, or was it their first visit and they took an hour and a half? If it was their first visit, that's a long time, unless you happen to own a mansion? ;)

We're in the process of buying our first house...have a closing date of next thursday. It was really ackward when we came through their house w/ the home inspector, because the sellers were told by their agent that the inspection should only take 10 min (!?)...they were in the middle of dinner, and everyone felt really ackward. They seemed mad at us, but they should have been mad at their rookie agent...oh well, the ended up leaving 15 min later, but they weren't too happy.

Anyway, to everyone selling their house, good luck!

That is not normal as far as I know. At least not in northeast. Once the house is closed on it is theirs. Period. In fact when you do the walk-through on the morning of the closing the house should be COMPLETELY EMPTY! Them giving you 36 hrs after closing was nice of them since it is THEIR house now and they assume the risk. You should rethink this position.

We are closing on a house next month in the Boston area so I know the score.

What BS! A professional home inspection should take 2-3 HRS!!!!! All appliances checked, heating and cooling units, plumbing, electrical, structural, roofing, termites, radon set-up, rodents, etc etc etc! Ours took over three hours and we got a 22 page report afterward with pictures documenting any aspect that needed repair.
