where my game is weak is my midrange game, i can't seem to hit any iron above a 9.

i am about 1.7 puts / hole.

so, my area of improvement really comes down to my 2nd shot game. if i can get a decent mid range game going i think i can get into the 80's.

I am quite a straight shooter, but lacking in distance. What I am lacking is definitely distance, I can use 20-30 yards more on my drives (currently average around 220).
My short game is so so, my putting SUCKS ARSE. I am lucky if I can average two puts per round.

for my driver, i just recently discovered the secret to longer drives. it's keeping the hands low and the knuckles of the left hand facing the target till just before the hands pass your right hip at which point the club starts to turn (this is the only way i know of to achieve the in / out swing).

for some reason tho, i can't get this to work for my irons.

simple supply and demand.

During the golf boom times (late 90s) tons of new nice courses are under development. Just around my area, there are four or five nice public courses (not counting the private courses).
Just a simple oversupply. Now only if I can play for less than $50 with cart on the weekends!

Generally aged 40-65, played once in the past 3 years, everyone has a pull cart, maximum shot distance is 116 yds (and that is cause for "ooh, nice one Scotty!"), guys are more interested in the beer cart girl than the golf game, etc etc

ahh, kind of fits the group in front of me except they were all women, middle aged women.

I remember your thread about that trick. That might work for you, but probably not for me. The instructor today just pointed out that I uncoil too quickly on the downswing, thus losing power. Also my club face at the back swing is too shut. I am now working on those two items. I bet I can gain solid distance after I fix those faults.

Have you taken any lessons? Go to a good pro and take a series of lessons. Trust me you will enjoy the game much better.

I have a funny golf story.. that is completely true. It should be made into a horror movie or something..

Anyway.. My dad and I were being lazy and we decided to ride. When we got to the first teebox, four fat old ladies (like.. really fat and old) were walking with push carts. They were about to tee off, but they let us play through since the course wasn't busy at all.

So anyway.. we tee off and expect never to see the old ladies again.. NOT SO! Omfg.. these were the fastest playing four fat old walking ladies that I've ever seen. They were keeping up with my dad and I RIDING!!!

My dad and I were like 'omg.. we should speed up.' So.. we speed up our play. They were playing fast enough to have to wait for us when we were on the greens on par 3's!! And, my dad and I weren't even playing bad.

We'd look back, and the four old ladies would be walking.. about 1mph slow as hell pulling their carts and chatting.. Then.. look forward 2 seconds and look back and the ladies are like right on our tails..

It really did start to get hilariously scary.. We were like 'damn.. we must really suck.. either that or they're really awesome!'

one of the guys i play about 2 rounds a month with is a golf pro. he gives me lessons while on the field. my swing has gotten very very compact. i used to be very wild with my swing, now it's very tight.

a good shoulder turn is probably the most important part of the swing tho.

I am paying $200 for a series of six half hour lessons. $200 is still cheaper than a new driver!

i forgot the most annoying part.

so we get to the ninth hole, and i'm thinking mb i can pass them at the turn.

they are on the green. then it seems one of the ladies is going to quit and leave, so they spend five minutes ON THE FVCKING GREEN saying their goodbyes so i can't hit on the green. WTF IS UP WITH THAT?

then the other 3 leave (btw, they have to cut ACCROSS THE PARKING LOT TO GET to the 10th hole).

and the one lady is sitting on the green talking on her cell phone, straightening out her bag and on and on and on. FVCK.

i should have just hit on the green then.

so by the time i get to the 10th hole the 3 ladies have just teed off.

OMFG.

1) well if there is was no room in front of them then they didn't need to let you play through

2) yacking on the phone while on or near the green is really rude and stupid too

again, if they had done their good byes etc in the parking lot like most normal people instead of the on the green, i could have played thru and they wouldn't have even had to wait.

it would have had zero effect on their game.

instead they choose to do it on the green and then AFTER the 3 left, the one that wasn't going to play stayed on the green an additional 5 minutes.

that was just very very thoughtless and rude.

Golfer's are usually a bunch of stuck up a-holes.

There's nothing they hate more than young people (21 or younger). When playing Golf, older people would always come up with the stupidest crap to complain to me about. Like saying 'Hey! Your ball almost hit me!" when i saw the ball/other people the whole way and it wasn't even close. It's not that bad though, i haven't had too many confrontations. Then again, i hardly ever play golf. People don't want to make me angry when i have a 9 iron in my hand

Now THAT kind of stuff annoys me. I can understand sometimes it's busy and people don't let you pass. But I can't stand the people who add up their scores, or organize their bags for the next hole, get out their tees, etc...while they are still on the friggin' green.
