For some context, right now my car is a little bit dirty. Dirt-film is on the paint.

So anyway, somebody gave me a door ding recently. On top of that, they rub the paint around the ding; I know this because the dirt was wiped off. I think it's because they wanted to see exactly how much damage they caused. Problem is, my clearcoat is fudge-soft and will scratch unless both the paint and the impinging body are 100% clean.

why is your clear "fudge soft" ?

i hate retards too. the rubber trim on the sides of my truck looks like someone took a small hatchet and went along its most protruding part.
 
This is why I set aside a few bucks each month for body work every couple of years to fix the little dings and nicks that happen from idiots and road rocks. I also tend to park out of the way of other cars. People swing doors open with their feet or kids in the back seat don't care.
