I hate people that use their fog lights all the time...

I'm bored at work, just wanted to see what people think about this.

When I drive around Minnesota, there are a TON of people who think they need their fog lights to be on! So many new cars now include them, but they don't do jack in reality. They just make each oncoming vehicle have that much more bright light which makes it hard on other drivers.

Back in the day I used to have fog lights that I ran all the time, then every so often people would flash me. I realized it was annoying for them, so I stopped using them. My Outback has fog lights, I never use them. Even in the fog they don't really help...

So, vote away...

edit: I'm not talking about the daytime running lights. Those are often orange or yellow colored. I'm talking about the full blown white fog lamps that many cars have now. They should be optional, since they are supposed to be for bad weather, and they point down. But the added light still bothers me...

edit again: Using this photo as an example, notice the lights on the bottom left and right corners of the vehicle's front. Those are fog lights. My Outback has similar lights, with a manual switch to turn the on or off. Here's another example

Fog lamps are aimed low, if a fog lamp blinds you either you are laying on the road or the lamp itself is way out of wack.

I don't care what other people do with their fog lights... and I turn mine on if I feel they need to be on.

i have daytime running lights and get an insurance discount because of it. i believe in Canada it's a law to run these lights on your vehicle too.

do you hate that too?

They p!ss me right off as it's distracting and dangerous. My solution? Slap on the full beams! They may not understand why I do this (usually they are women - lets face it), but I feel better for having annoyed them. It's the yin-yang of life working it's magic.

Daytime running lights dont blind oncoming traffic in the middle of the day 😕

There's a difference between aftermarket fogs and factory fogs. If you're being blinded by factory fogs, you're eyes WAY more sensitive than mine. On the other hand, the aftermarket fogs if not installed correctly could cause some problems and generally do annoy me.

it's the rear foglights that I feel are the worst, never been annoyed by fronts.

You don't know what fog lights are... It's the YELLOW ones that are foglights, and the white ones that are just driving lights (they call them fog lights for marketing). What would make you think the opposite? W
hat reason would "daytime running lights" have to be yellow? And what reason would "fog lights" have to be white, considering they are usually yellow to reduce scattering from the fog droplets.

Also, fog lights have a low cutoff, so they shouldn't be blinding anybody.

In my car, the factory fog light switch controls the radar detector

Should note that my car never came with fog lights

I know what fog lights are, I've installed after-market ones myself. They can be yellow, they can be white. On many cars they are sold retail with white fog lights for some insane reason. True, yellow would be better. I don't know why they do it this way.

I'll find a photo and link it with what I'm talking about. I'm certain they are extra lights that are intended to be fog lights. Why would a vehicle need 4 bright white lights shooting out the front, and all four lights are in different corners of their grill? Obviously the bottom ones are the fog lights.

But even before the edit, what he was complaining about was that the fog lights more easily blind oncoming traffic. So your comment about DRLs made no sense, since they dont blind oncoming traffic.

It's not a law, but it is a government regulation that all cars sold in Canada must have daytime running lights.

You won't get pulled over or cited if you don't have them, but if you buy a new car, it will have them.

They're on Explorers as stock, and they are white. They are way to bright to use at night, unless conditions require them.

I live in a rural area, where there are no lights other than those on cars, and those fricking fog lights drive me batsh!t. They are blinding to oncoming traffic - not as bad as brights, but damn close.

What do daytime running lights have to do with foglights? 😕

Maybe that's the problem. I get bothered the most when I am out in the country and there are no city lights around.

Mine are always on when the low-beam lights are on. Unless one burns out, then I turn them off. I think it looks neater to have 4 lights instead of 2.

It might look neater, but thats all the car coming the other direction can see, the road gets hard to see.

I guess you dont care if someone runs off the road due to your "neat" lights.

How does it look neater from the inside of the car?? 😕

Do you have any idea how annoying those lights are to the other people on the road? Do you care?
