I hate parking lots made for cars the size of mini coopers.

I hated to be an a$$ but had to take 2 spots. If I parked within the lines I wouldn't be able to get out of the car nor will the other drivers be able to get in.

Well I own a mini cooper and I still won't park in those "compact car" spots. They are too narrow for pretty much any car unless you don't mind risking a nice dent in your door from discourteous neighbors.

You mean compact parking?
I hate compact parking too, because at this WalMart the only reason they have it is to put trees in the parking lot. Why the hell do you want trees in the parking lot??? This Walmart sucks anyways. Always too many strange people, strange employees, and very disorganized. More like a ghetto Walmart. Just yesterday some guy snuck passed the view of a cashier and took 2 boxes of smokes. He then went off around the store and hid the smokes I guess.
Too much crappy stuff happens there.

One of our local Home Depots has tiny little parking spots with really narrow lanes. Of all places I would think Home Depot would realize that the chances of a customer driving there in a pick-up or SUV would be relatively high, so they would make it as easy as possible to negotiate the parking lot.

Whats even the point of compact parking? To provide for more spots total? Thats pointless, if you have to take up two anyways, their reasoning is shot. Make all spots the same size, throughout the whole parking lot for goodness sakes.

There are alot of parking lots that are too narrow for any car above midsized. Like the one at my work. There was a news report many years ago about lots in one area (SF iirc) where there were rules for the building of lots, but they could be changed later w/o any problem. So a 7-8' parking spot could be re-striped to as narrow as 5' (they measured), where a single motorcycle looked right in the spot. I've had places where I was flat unable to park within a single spot, I tried and ended up taking up three spots because all four of my tires were on both lines.

Many times at my work I can't come close to making the door open to the first stop.

90% of the spots in our work lot are marked "compact" and are completely ridiculous for the mostly camrys and accords in that lot, much less bigger cars.

I used to park in a garage that had narrow lots and I'd always find new dings and scratches on my civic. Now though I park in a garage which has like 18" buffer zones on either side (it's not just one white line dividing spots, but a double white line with nice space in-between) and now I barely ever see any dings or scratches on my pilot. love it!

Damn, that's small. We use a minimum of 9' wide by 18-20' long when laying out parking spaces...and that's even when we are cramped for space and need to get as many spaces as possible.

I've been in a lot where on one side was a Samurai 4" away, and on the other was a compact sedan about 12" away. Neither were parked unusual. The reason why the Samurai was so close was that I parked out of center so I could get out of my car ('91 Grand Prix), I had the passengers get out before I pulled in. This was a parking garage in LA. I paid something like $10 for an hour to park there too.

I have a Crown Vic and I despise tiny parking lots. However, most SUVs are smaller than my Crown Vic contrary to what it appears. The only vehicles much wider are cargo vans and pickup trucks (non-CDL that is).

The compact spots in our office parking lot barely have enough clearance for me to get out of my Mazda 3.

I usually do park farther away because I don't want my car dinged and dented. Just that in this case the whole parking lot was compact. And because the spots were so small most people were parking in every other spot. I wouldn't even think about trying to squeeze in between.

This is why I try to avoid parking lots in San Gabriel Valley area of asian plaza and malls. There is no parking, and what parking there is, it's usually compact. At last check, showboating Asian people don't drive compact cars.
