GAH! I can't play freelancer because my textures are not showing up! AH! Stupid nvidia drivers not working!!! I've tried all the drivers including the 41.xx which don't even let my comp boot up. AHH! I want to play freelancer...

Another reason why I should go ATI.

sounds like your computer has more serious problems than the video card.

I think you got it wrong.. that's what normally happens with ATI cards, not NVidia cards...I've never had a single driver glitch IN MY LIFE with NVidia, cause their drivers are awesome. ATI on the other hand... not so good in the past.. getting better.

Maybe it's an "expanded demo version" and they got the "disc removal enhancement" wrong?

Or it could be installing too many different sets of drivers without a clean OS install?

Lemme check... nope I have a genuine GF3 Ti200. The most stable drivers for it are the 40.72s, the 41.xx fail to boot up winxp. It hangs at the boot screen :(. Anyways, I atleast I got freelancer to run by disabling "cutscene detail." Apparently when I have cutscene detail, the screen shows up as all white and I can't see anything except for the strobe lights in the city. I played it, it was fun... although hard to control. But :( at nvidia for making mess around with it for an hour trying to get it to work, first by installing 3 drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling it, and then testing out which options make it work...

I still think I'm gonna get a r9500 pro.

i notice you are running a VIA chipset. perhaps it be crappy via agp drivers or something like that and if you think nVidias drivers are bad, try an ATI card or god forbid a s3 card.

I have personally owned multiple Nvidia cards (Riva 128 back in the day, GeForce 256, GeForce2, 2 GeForce 4 (Ti4200 currently and a 4600 last fall)).

I haven't had any problems with the cards themselves nor with the drivers. But....with different video card/motherboard combinations now....that is a different story.

Ran into troubles with my GF 256 on an older Slot A Athlon board. Nothing to do with drivers or physically with the card. Just an incompatibility between the 2.

Are you sure that you have the motherboard drivers installed correctly? If you miss the AGP driver, all kinds of problems can occur. Also, make sure that you are using a current version of DirectX.

Have you played any other games besides freelancer? If so, did they show problems? If not, I wouldn't lay blame on Nvidia's drivers and black ball the company because of it. Have you checked for an update or patch for freelancer that may address this type of problem, or any graphical problem, if not specifically for your graphics card or motherboard?

That is how Microsoft came into power....people began to give up on the competition.

Shoot some more information to us, the community can help.

When I made my last post, I didn't know what Freelancer was.

Now that I see it was originally made by Microsoft....that may explain the problems. I have had problems with Microsoft games in the past on both my computers and my clients' computers. AOE2 can be a pain if not setup just right with the perfect combination of DirectX installation before any drivers are installed...then the game and patches. Pain in the Ass.

I would blame all your problems on the game itself and not Nvidia. Did you purchase this game legit or download it? I don't care whether you answer truthfully or not, so I will give you my reasoning now.

Microsoft games bought legit have given me little problems with my clients when compared to a burnt copy of the same cd that works fine. I don't know if they are trialing new copyright protection in their cds or what, but burnt Microsoft games have given me more problems then they are worth.

Thats the problem I have right now with an ECS K7S5A and a Sapphire Radeon 8500LE.

Nvidia GF2 Pro and Radeon 9000Pro work fine in the ECS - but not the 8500LE.

The 8500LE works fine in other systems.

If I was less experienced I would have blamed the ATI drivers ;)

I have the "expanded demo version" with the "disc removal enhancement." It runs fine as long as I keep "cutscene detail" to zero.

Yes, I am running DX9 and I'm running the latest Hyperion drivers.

Actually, I think I might blame it on an old OS, I've been running this state of WinXP since June so it's pretty old accumulated with a lot of bad parts of the OS. IE: My EAX HD longer works in games like UT2K3, Dungeon Siege, Unreal 2.

Although I have ran into performance problems with my GF3 Ti200, it's not running as great as a Ti200 should run on UT2K3, it reboots in Unreal 2, and freezes a bunch of times in 3DMark03. Like I said, I should probably get a new video card. I'm running on obsolete technology.

Other than that Freelancer is awesome! I love dogfighting :).

I didn't get any textures at first when i tested the demo. Turned out i needed to have "fog table emolution" ON.
With it turned off, no textures.
Don't know if this is your problem, but it might be worth a try.
(Display properties, direct3D settings).

"Microsoft games are buggy"

If there is one thing microsoft has done right, it's make games. Other than that they suck, but when it comes to making games, I absolutely love some of the stuff they have (I especially like the MechWarrior series and Ascherons Call)

I'll try that, it turns I have fog table emulation turned off. I thought it was supposed to be on by default. Thanks though.

I do admit Microsoft games are fun, but they're still so buggy. Things like Dungeon Siege, AOE2, AOM, MM1, MM2, Mechwarrior, and finally Freelancer are all fun.

It`s on by default,I`ve just checked both my PCs that have two different Nvidia cards and "fog emulation" is on by default,as for Nvidia drivers well I don`t think you can find more solid drivers from any other company.

Nvidia cards may be underperforming/expensive but they are definately NOT buggy. I am guessing its a software issue, look for a patch or something. If not I would blame your VIA chipset

You might try installing the Via 4.43 drivers. No explanation cause I don't remember it exactly. It has something to do with enabling agp8x in the Hyperions. Don't know if this'll help, cause I never installed the hyperOnes.:)
