Absolutely! My friend inherited a house on the west side of Long Beach Island that's right on the water, and it FREAKING ROCKS! He sets crab traps off the dock and goes clamming in the sand right around his house, and his wife makes the BEST lunches and dinners with what they catch. Top that off with a hottub and a big-ass TV and a bunch of friends with some good drink, and you're set!

Unfortunately, northern Jersey IS not the greatest place and the auto insurance is ridiculous and the cops are only a little radar-happy and some of the taxes could be lower...but other than that it's not THAT bad. Could be Massachusetts *shudder*.

New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the nation. It used to be Rhode Island, but it hasn't been for years now.

Yet, inland South Jersey is as down home rural as you can get. The white folk "pineys" in the Pine Barrens are banjo pickin' Applalachian home boys. The blacks in the rural areas south of that remind me strongly of Dixie rural blacks -- they're "country" through and through.

And, let me tell you, as a P.I., even with the best maps available, trying to track down folks in those parts is half laughable. Marked roads peter out into rutted trails into nothing. Addresses are as screwed up as I've seen anywhere, and that's saying something!! You've got to spend some time down there jawin' with the locals or you'll never get anywhere or find anything!!

I've been in Nj most of my life, and would love to move. I would miss the bears though. I like to chase them and scare them away from the house. My wife thinks I'm nuts when I go running after a 300+ pound bear, armed only with sticks and rocks. They run like hell when I do hit them though.

Representing Philadelphia here.... I gotta say i dont think NJ is that bad, especially the coast. Gotta love Ocean City, Atlantic City, wildwood, etc ,etc .... great beaches, s'loads of fun.

Good to see there is NJ pride here.

It really isnt that bad of a state at all. The only reason people think that way is because they land in Newark airport and all they get to see of the state is that tiny little area.

I mean, how can this be bad: I am looking out my window and see corn fields and trees and if I walk down the street I can see a llama farm and some cows. In a few minuites I will be heading out to hang out in NYC for the night and then coming back home where the stars will be shining clearly above. Most of this state is a great place to be in.. too bad people dont take notice of most of it.

If you live in Jersey, go out and get the mag! It's really cool. A lot of it is written like a cheap horror story, but it's still fascinating the things they have found.
My only complaint about WeirdNJ is the fact that most of the stuff they explore is strictly in North Jersey. The stuff they've only covered in the south are like...The Skillman Institute, which is BARELY SJ, The Atco Ghost, one of the old Nike Missle bases, the old Catholic school in Riverside, and some moronic sidebar about abandoned shopping centers in my hometown of Delran when those shopping centers are in Cinnaminson and WIllingboro to begin with

Yuck. I was going to go to Ikea in NJ today but might go tomorrow. Everytime I get on the Jersey Turnpike I can't help but sing, "Woke up this morning, got myself a gun..."

So far I've lived in Quebec, NJ, NY, KS, and CA. I like NJ the best of all the places I've lived. I used to live in Wyckoff in Northern NJ. Once you get west of 287 in the Northern parts, the state very quickly goes from suburb to rural.

Most of my relatives live in South Jersey (Hazlet Township). I don't mind it at all, the only things that suck about NJ are some of the major cities, such as Camden, Trenton, and Newark. You have to watch your back when travelling through those cities.

Just don't drink the tap water in NJ, like Mexico. Its a pretty weird and diverse State. I am glad Kidd is a Net also, good riddance to that Marbury sucker. He will prolly get along fine w/Penny. They're 2 of a kind, CHUMPS. Kidd is so much better and no attitude problem.

Jzero, there were Nike missle silos on an island off the Bronx too. That island also used to have a drug rehab facility, a correctional facility and still has a Potter's field. Its an interesting island and pretty creepy. Some of the stories on weirdnj are fascinating, I was getting creeped out by them. NJ has been home to a lot of cults. I especially liked the story on the MENLO ABANDONED MENTAL INSTITUTION, and the Mary Ellis story. Now I know what the guys were thinkin when they wrote *Brandy* and I've often wondered. thanks

I visited NJ (Cherry Hill, near Camden to be exact) in the summer. All I gotta say is that the streets are absolutely horrendous there and I NEVER wanna go back if I have to drive. The streets went all over the place with the curving, turning, one-ways, etc. I prefer the wide, open streets in my northwest-chicago suburb. Id say the best part about visiting NJ was going to the Statute of Liberty and Atlantic City (altho, Im not old enuff to gamble). Besides that, the weather sucked ass and there seemed to be no peacefulness wherever we went. Everything looked deserted, run-down, dirty, etc, but like the others said, SJ is better than the places I went

Ah, I like New Jersey. Southern Jersey though, in the suburbs. It smells in Jersey City and those cities, can't stand em. Just don't wander into Camden

At least here I don't have to dodge gunshots, use a cab to get anywhere, or pay ridiculously high rents for small spaces. Oh wait, there's actually houses here to buy, silly me The insurance rates do suck, but at least it's not bumper to bumper traffic around my house.

Some of the hottest women I've ever known were from Jersey. However, the state only has a small area that doesn't suck: Bayville, Seaside and surrounding environs. If GOD wanted to give the world an enema, he'd stick it in the rest of the state, with the exception of the Jo Jo's Tavern (if it's still there).
