My schools connections SUCKS ASS

every computer is behind a router, so no incoming connections are allowed, and each building gets ONE FRIGGIN IP ADDRESS TO SHARE
All ports except port 80 (HTTP) and 21 (FTP) are limited to about 0.05 k/sec of bandwidth, and FTP is limited to about 20 k/sec.
Any link that is an MP3 is blocked, even over HTTP, including legit files like speechs, prank phone calls, etc. EVERY MP3 IS BLOCKED.
Streaming radio?!? hahahah yeah right, it buffers for 30 seconds, plays for 2, then repeats
and look at what happens on AIM:

[04:23:54 PM] *** You have been disconnected. Sun Sep 22 16:23:54 2002.
[05:16:32 PM] *** You have been disconnected. Sun Sep 22 17:16:32 2002.
[05:44:18 PM] *** You have been disconnected. Sun Sep 22 17:44:18 2002.
[05:54:12 PM] *** You have been disconnected. Sun Sep 22 17:54:12 2002.
[06:20:12 PM] *** You are currently disconnected. Messages will not be received.

GODDAMNIT I WOULD RATHER HAVE DIALUP THAN THIS POS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :| :| :| :| :| :| :|

I go to UCR, the same school as brtspears2...we actually lived 4 doors down from each other last year and didn't know it :D

BUT THIS INTERNET IS TOTAL CRAP! :| :| :|

i try to connect to IRC, but it takes 3 minutes to download the 4 paragraph text welcome message, and another 4 minutes to join a channel and get a list of users currently in the channel :|

LOL, i started reading your post and thought to myself "it would be funny if he was talking about ucr"
:D

what building are you in?
sounds like they really crapped up the network/internet. hopefully it's not permanent and they're just working on something. was it like this last year? heh, speeds were pretty good 2 years ago, i got my connection suspended a few times for overuse of bandwidth.

oh yeah, anyone know anything about the UCR wireless network? does it encompass the whole campus? reaches the dorms? how do you get access to it? :)

My apartment complex has 3 T1's shared with 600 people over 6 buildings. It rarely works efficiently so I bought a cable modem. MUCH better, plus great tech support thanks to FFMCobalt ;) :D

Geez we wonder why its so slow....

But then what else do college students do .. mp3s , pr0n, and moovies. Studying is somewhere.

Its not that bad:
2002-09-24 03:25:55 EST: 3296 / 15424
Your download speed : 3296392 bps, or 3296 kbps.
A 402.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 15424164 bps, or 15424 kbps

But then I'm not behind a NAT at UCR, heh ;)

That would be my usual UCR resnet provided in room connection of course. To think before all these damn residents moved in COUGH *NuclearFusi0n1 x 1900* CHOKE, busting at least 30000/30000 without a hitch.

Basically, you heard of UCLA right? So, UCR is this one campus thats east of UCLA about ... 70 or so miles in the desert. Any kid that didn't get into UCLA and/OR got a 3.3 in high school basically gets into UCR automagically.

I just goto school at UCR only because no other UC will take my sorry corpse, even after a transfer request.

Wow, I could pull a 1MB/s at Ole Miss in 1998. They were thinking about upgrading the network too. Get a cable modem.
