I hate my coworkers

I was out of the office on tuesday/wednesday (scheduled days off).

during those 2 days that I wasn't around, no one was able to figure out why AMD virtualization couldn't be enabled in the bios... on an AMD machine. /facepalm

I thought you quit your crappy job so that you could take a perfect job while screwing your former boss over because he doesn't like WoW?

new job starts in 3 weeks unless my boss decides he can't let me go.

while screwing your former boss over because he doesn't like WoW?

it's got nothing to do with WoW and it's super annoying that you bring it up in every thread. lol.

how many raids did you do on your days off.... be honest... did you level up? any unique items?

I haven't logged onto warcraft in like a week+. in the process of cutting back/quitting.

I only point out your flaws to diminish my own.

DON'T BE A QUITTER

I might get sucked back in when Ulduar comes out, but lately I've just been so bored of the game that I can't summon a desire to log in... also bought an XBox 360 and have Fallout 3 getting delivered today 😉

It sounds like AMD Virtualization is a setting that allows the machine to pretend it's an AMD machine, but the machine was an AMD machine so the setting wasn't necessary in the first place.

That would not have been my assumption at all, if I see a BIOS setting that says AMD Virtualization on an AMD machine, my assumption would be that it refers to the AMD-V "Pacifica" technology, so I have no idea what the OP is going on about here. If it can't be enabled, my first guess would be that the CPU in the machine doesn't support it. If what you are suggesting is what the OP was insinuating, I'd have to nominate this thread for self-ownage.

Yet another reason that Intel rocks

I'm not sure what he means either...if it's an AMD CPU that supports AMD-V, on a supported motherboard, the option should be available to toggle in the bios. I'd be just as confused as his coworkers. Maybe he meant VT instead of AMD?

EDIT: hehe...oops:
AMD CPUs that support AMD-V always have this feature enabled, and therefore there is no choice as to whether support is enabled or disabled.
Shows how many AMD servers we use...😛

no, AMD virtualization enables a cpu with virtualization support so the box can be used as a hypervisor that will allow unmodified operating systems to be run as virtual machines with good performance. its not a part of all AMD cpus, however (Intel has it as well. only available on certain cpus)

with some intel chips, you can disable/enable VT in the BIOS. im not sure why, i dont know if it affects performance to leave it enabled *shrug*

for AMD chips its always on.

That line is downright wrong, my home desktop can enable/disable this in the BIOS, and the setting actually does affect Virtual PC. It also conflicts with what is written above in the AMD-V section - I may have to go edit this Wikipedia page.
